College teachers & staff to be treated at par with Govt. officials with regards to availing seats in Assam Bhawans & Circuit Houses

Aug. 1: In a significant development, the Assam Government in a notification stated that henceforth all teaching and non teaching staff of Provincialized College / Govt. and Autonomous Colleges / State Universities shall be treated at par with Govt. officials with regards to availing seats in the Assam Bhawans /Houses and the Circuit Houses all throughout the country.

Issuing an order to this effect, MS Manivannan, Commissioner & Secretary to the Government of Assam on 30 July stated, “n partial modification of this Department’s OM No. GAG (8) 282/2011 /62 dated 25/10/2019 and OM No. GAG (8) 282/2011/ Pt/41 dated 03/08/2019 the teaching and non teaching staff of Provincialized College / Govt. and Autonomous Colleges / State Universities shall be treated at par with Govt. servants with regards to availing seats in the Assam Bhawans /Houses and the Circuit Houses.”

Taking to his twitter handle, Minister for General Administration, Ranjeet Kumar Dass wrote, “Glad to inform that under the able leadership of HCM @himantabiswa dangoria, the teaching and non teaching staff of Provincialized/Govt or Autonomous College & State University shall be treated as Govt Officials & will be able to own the same benefits as a government employee.”

Expressing his views, Himangshu Maral, President of Assam College Teachers’ Association said, “I am immensely pleased to inform you all that as requested by ACTA, the GAD department has modified the relevant OM to allow the College Teachers to stay at Assam Houses/ Circuit Houses at concessional room rent. We are grateful to the GAD Minister Sri Ranjit Das and our Ex President Prof. Biswajit Bhuyan for their kind help and cooperation in fulfilling this long standing demand of ACTA. Long live ACTA!”

Infact, a delegation of ACTA led by its President Himangshu Maral met the Education Minister Dr Ronoj Pegu on 3 July, 2022, wherein this issue of extending the facility for the college teachers to stay at Assam House/ Circuit House at concessional rates as applicable to Govt servants was also raised. The Minister gave a positive nod to this issue and urged upon the Commissioner & Secretary of the concerned department to the needful, following which the notification was issued in favour of the college teachers and staff on 30 July, 2022.
