2-day National Seminar organised by Women’s College to kick start on 25 July
July 24: At a time when the entire nation is celebrating Azadi ka Amrit Mahotsav on the completion of 75 years of the country’s independence, the Department of Economics and the Internal Quality Assurance Cell (IQAC) of Women’s College Silchar finds it a right time to organize a national seminar on the topic “Emerging Socio and Cultural issues of South Asian Nations Towards Developmental Journey in the Post-Colonial Era.”
The two-day national seminar scheduled on 25th and 26th July, 2022 (Monday and Tuesday) in the premises of the college is sponsored by Maulana Abul Kalam Azad Institute of Asian Studies (MAKAIAS), Kolkata.
The proceedings of the inaugural session of the seminar will start from 10:30 am on Monday.
Dr Manoj Kumar Paul, principal of the college who is also a veteran academician from the Department of Economics and Dr Sujoy Das, convener of the national seminar and assistant professor at the Department of Economics of the college said the that the basic objective of the seminar is to flashback the scenario of socio- economic and cultural development of India which is the key player across the South Asian countries.
Moreover, Dr Das added to inform that the seminar will also invite discussions on regional cooperation among South Asian countries towards solution of many common problems of the nations. Dignitaries, resource persons from different parts of the region will share their minds on the topic and
relevant sub-themes during the inaugural and technical sessions of the seminar. Professor Sujit Kumar Ghosh, chairman of MAKAIAS will be the Chief Guest of the seminar, Professor Rajive Mohan Pant, vice chancellor of Assam University Silchar will be the Special Guest and Professor NB Dey, former professor Department Commerce and Dean MK Gandhi school of Economics and Commerce, Assam University Silchar will be the Guest of Honour at the seminar, Dr Das added.
“The national seminar encircles different socio-economic , cultural, political and cross border issues of India interfaced with the other south Asian nations. We believe that the seminar will address the basic problems of the South Asian region and pinpoint the solutions. The seminar has two important aspects- firstly, it will correlate socio-economic development of the region especially of India after completion of 75 years journey.
Secondly, the sessions in the seminar would emphasize upon the impact of the pandemic on socio-economic development of the region. Experienced with the natural disorders and pandemics, we have kept blended mode for this seminar. We hope, the academic discourse over these two days will produce thought provoking discussion in the presence of our invited resource persons,” Dr Das maintained.
