NIT Silchar observes ‘World Environment Day’ amidst a plethora of activities

NIT Silchar has celebrated a spectacular ‘World Environment Day’ as a part of “ Azadi ka Amrit Mahotsav” where faculties and students planted trees together. Like every year, this year too the ECO Club of NIT silchar organised, “Prakriti 2.0”, a grand celebration of gratefulness and concern towards the Environment to spread awareness to make the campus cleaner and greener.

Following the tradition, the environment day started with plantation of saplings at different spots in the campus. Since first year students have joined the campus recently, special drive has been taken in their Aryabhatta hostel, where the students together with teachers planted several fruits and flower trees and a special drive for kitchen garden has been taken where different vegetable seeds were also planted. Silchar is famous for pineapple and hence pineapple trees have been specially planted near the girls’ hostel.

Beside plantation, paintings and murals on the walls of hostel premises by the first year students depicting environmental issues have been done. An art competition was held among the UG first year students of the institute. Also an oath taking ceremony was organised where pledge was taken to work for keeping the campus green and clean. Distribution of prizes and certificate of appreciation were also given to the participants of the Wall Painting and art competitions. A poster making competition was arranged where first year students showcased their creativity and know how of environmental issues.

Other events under Prokriti 2.0 observed by NIT Silchar on the occasion of World Environment Day 2022 are:

1. Leafy Notes – An online write up competition about the environment and other relevant topics. (Online – 1st June to 6th June)
2. Tint Tone Shade – A poster making competition on the theme ‘Only One Earth’ (Online – 1st June to 8th June)
3. A Pale Dot – A chat on nature where participants have to show a conversation between people about nature. (Online – 2nd June to 7th June)
4. Caption It – An online competition where participants will have to write a caption or description about nature related pictures shown. ( 3rd June to 10th June)


5.Green Auction – An online auction event based on Green and sustainable practices. (6th June)
6. Speaker’s Session – An online speaker’s session by IFS officer Ankit Kumar on 6th June
7. Cosmo Speech – A speech competition about environment related topics. (Online – 6th June)
8. Green Stills – A photography competition based on the theme Only One Earth (Online – 1st June to 7th June)
9. 50 Shades Greener – An environmental quiz event. (Online – 7th June)
10. Present It Out – A ppt presentation event where participants have to present their green ideas. (Online – 10th June).
