2.29 lakh people affected by flood in 490 villages of Cachar till Sunday

199 relief camps opened by district administration in Cachar

May 22: The flood situation seem sto be very grim in Cachar district as 2,29,275 persons from 490 villages were affected till Sunday. Also, 5,915 hectare agricultural land were also flooded. So far, 199 relief camps were opened by the district administration in which 22 medical teams were deputed.

Supply water was provided in the relief camps located within the Silchar Municipal area. However, in other parts of the district, medicines for purifying drinking water were distributed. Stress was laid on the proper maintenance  of health and hygiene among the flood victims who took shelter in the relief camps.

On Sunday, 595 quintal rice, 100 quintal pulses, 31 quintal salt, 2,323 litres edible oil were distributed as relief materials. As per the direction of the Deputy Commissioner, all line departments functioned even on Sunday. Even APDCL employees were working round the clock in restoring electric supply. Anti-malaria fogging were also done in many parts of Silchar.
