Those who prefer to feed biscuits to dogs & offer the same to people shouldn’t talk about decency: Himanta Biswa

Feb. 2: Congress MP Rahul Gandhi on Wednesday launched a blistering attack on the government and said the government can’t rule over India without taking states on board, without consulting the states. “It is not a kingdom…You are not the king,” Rahul Gandhi said in motion of thanks to the presidential address. He also spoke about the lack of political decency among the ruling BJP. However, BJP leader and Assam Chief Minister Dr Himanta Biswa Sarma severely criticised Rahul Gandhi on this issue.

In response to this, Assam Chief Minister, Dr Himanta Biswa Sarma reminded Rahul Gandhi about the incident involving his pet dog, a few years ago, which was widely criticised by the former after joining BJP. Taking to his twitter handle on Wednesday, CM Dr Sarma tweeted, “Mr. Rahul Gandhi, those who prefer to feed biscuits to dogs in the presence of leaders from Assam and then offer them the same biscuits should be the last people to talk about political decency. High command mindset is INC’s be all and end all. The people of India know it well.”

Legend has it that former Congress leader Himanta Biswa Sarma had gone to meet Rahul Gandhi to discuss Assam’s problems but the Congress VP was busy playing with his canine friend. Disillusioned Biswa Sarma left and joined BJP who has helped the party come to power in Assam and helped manoeuvre alliances in Manipur to form the government.

Narrating that ordeal, Himanta Biswa Sarma told a private news channel that during that time, there was a brainstorming session on defeating the BJP in the upcoming assembly elections in Assam. He said Rahul Gandhi was not interested in the meeting during the entire conversation and was playing with his dog. Himanta Biswa Sarma further said, “Tea and coffee were brought to the leaders present during the meeting. Meanwhile, Rahul Gandhi’s dog went to the table and took a biscuit from the plate and started eating. Then Rahul Gandhi looked at me and smiled. I wondered why he was doing it when he saw me?” In fact, Himanta was carrying a cup of tea in his hand and waiting for Rahul Gandhi to order another plate instead of the plate that was tied by the dog. He waited for 5 minutes, but then saw veteran leaders like former CM Tarun Gogoi and CP Joshi picking up biscuits from the same plate.

Sarma said he did not always go to meet Rahul Gandhi but that day he realized that all this was normal for him. He felt that this would have happened in all Rahul Gandhi meetings. He said, “That same day I realized that enough is enough, now I can’t live with this person. But, I also thank him. If I hold this post today, the credit goes to that meeting and the fact that Rahul Gandhi did not like me being in the Congress.” Sarma worked for the Congress for 22 years.
