Slight rise in Covid graph post-Durga Puja in Assam; restrictions likely to be imposed

Oct. 20: Though no death due to Covid-19 was reported after a long time in Assam on Tuesday, yet there was a slight increase in the number of Covid positive cases during the day in the state. On Tuesday, out of 39,654 tests, 353 persons were detected as COVID-19 positive in Assam. With this, the state tally of coronavirus has now gone upto 6,07,119. Cachar district too saw a slight rise of positive cases on Tuesday. As per the latest data, a total of 16 persons were found positive in the district on 19 October.

While reacting to this this, state Health Minister Keshab Mahanta while interacting with a national daily stated, “On Monday, we had a meeting with the chief minister to discuss the scenario after Durga Puja…we decided on some measures. We will study the situation further for the next few days and take some decisions within a week.” He further added that the next few days will be crucial as only after that the state government will decide on adopting fresh curbs.

Though the state government imposed a number of curbs to be followed during the recently concluded Durga Puja, but in most of the districts, protocols were flouted, thereby increasing chance of contamination of the deadly coronavirus.
