26 detected Covid +ve till 6 PM in Cachar on Saturday, 1 death at SMCH

July 31:  A total of 26 new cases of COVID-19 was reported till 6 PM on Saturday in Cachar. The number of positive cases is expected to rise towards the night. During the day, 2,605 Rapid Antigen Tests (RAT) were done in which all 26 were found positive, whereas till the filing of this report, RT-PCR test results were not made available. It needs mention here that 35 persons were detected Covid-19 positive on Friday.

The Covid-19 situation is gradually improving. There has been substantial decline in the number of daily positive cases. However, the last 24 hours (5 PM on 30 July to 5 PM on 31 July) witnessed the death of 01 Covid-19 positive patient at Silchar Medical College & Hospital (SMCH). The detailed reports were forwarded to the State Death Audit Board. This was informed by Dr. Bhaskar Gupta, Vice Principal of SMCH on Saturday evening. The deceased was identified as:

  • Bijon Kumar Chakraborty (72) from Kalain in Cachar district took admission at SMCH on 29 July. The patient, however, breathed his last at 6 AM on 31 July.

Dr Bhaskar Gupta, Vice Principal of SMCH informed that till 5 PM on 31 July, there were 58 Covid-19 active patients at Silchar Medical College, out of which 25 patients were there in the ICU, whereas, 33 of them were in the Covid ward. Further, 3 patients were put under ventilator support and 42 of them were in oxygen support. In the last 24 hours, 11 Covid positive patients were admitted at SMCH and 10 of them were discharged.
