Though high pass rate in HSLC, yet no dearth of seats in HS 1st year: Ranoj Pegu

Beware of spurious private institutions operating without govt permission, warns Education Minister

The Board of Secondary Education Assam (SEBA) has declared the HSLC/AHM Examination 2021 results on July 30. A record 93.10% of students passed this examination this year. Prior to this, the highest pass percentage of 70.71 was recorded in 2013. Out of a total of 4,26,553 candidates, 3,96,132 has come out successful in the Class X Board Final Examination conducted by the Assam Board.

This high pass percentage this year in HSLC exams has led to panic in the minds of several students and guardians who are afraid that there might not be enough seats in different HS Schools and Colleges where they could seek admission in HS 1st year. However, dispelling these fears as unjustified, state Education Minister Dr Ranoj Pegu on Friday said, “I would like to assure the students and their guardians that there are enough seats in schools and colleges to accommodate all students who have qualified HSLC this year.”

Expressing his views, the Education Minister stated that there are a total of 3,35,272 seats in existing HS Schools and permitted provincialised colleges of the state. There seems to be a shortfall of around 49,639 seats, but that too could easily be managed because there are a number of permitted private colleges in the state where the rest of the students can be accommodated. The exact number of seats available in these permitted private colleges will be available with the education department very soon.

Dr Ranoj Pegu further said, “I urge upon the students and guardians not to fall a prey to spurious private colleges who have only a signboard and no permission of the government. Be very careful while admitting your wards.”
