Dept of Mechanical Engineering, NIT Silchar successfully completes week long FDP programme

July 23: National Institute of Technology (NIT), Silchar successfully completed a one-week online AICTE Training and Learning (ATAL) Academy Faculty Development Programme (FDP) on ‘3D Printing Design & Technology.’ This Faculty Development Programme was held from July 19-23, 2021 and was organised by the Department of Mechanical Engineering, NIT Silchar through virtual mode.

Eminent Resource persons from various reputed institutes and industry experts shared their expertise with the participants. The resource persons who made themselves available are Yogendra Srivastava, Founder, VSD Enterprises, Hyderabad, Rakesh Koppunur, National Manager VSD Enterprises, Hyderabad, Vivek Bansal, Mindfulness & Meditation Educator, Uttrakhand, Dr. Y Ravi Kumar, Asst. Professor, NIT Warangal, Dr. M Ravi Shankar, IIT Tirupati, Prof. Pulak Mohan Pandey, Delhi among others.

The Valedictory session of the FDP was organised on 23 July, 2021 virtually in the presence of Chief Guest Prof. Sivaji Bandyopadhyay, Director, NIT Silchar, Guest of Prof. Rajat Gupta, Prof. Rahul Deb Misra, Dean FW Prof. Pramod Kumar Patowari, Head, Department of Mechanical Engineering Dr. S. Bhowmik and the participants.

Speaking about the FDP, its Coordinators Dr. Yogesh Singh, Dr. Rajeev Nayan Gupta and Dr. S. Negi stated that 3D printing system is used by designers for more than 30 years as a prototyping tool to reduce the product realization time. In the last decade, it gained attraction as an inevitable manufacturing technology for various fields such as Defence, Medical, Aerospace and Automobile. It empowers the innovators with enormous design freedom to manufacture customized products. The versatility of 3D printers is evident in variety of ways they are used today. It has the potential to democratize the production of components, and goods from food to medical supplies. In future, 3D printing machines could make their way into homes and offices.
