50 International Students interested in admissions to AUS

way2barak, September 15: A new chapter of success has been written at the prestigious Assam University in Northeast India. Nearly fifty students from different countries across the world have applied for admission to various departments of the university. This development is significant not only in terms of numbers but also in its deeper meaning—it clearly reflects that Assam University is steadily establishing itself as a center of international higher education. For the past few years, the university administration has been placing special emphasis on internationalization, and as a result, students from abroad are now showing keen interest in seeking admission here. The applicants are primarily from Southeast Asian countries.
The academic fraternity of the university believes that this achievement is not merely a success of the admission process, but also an opportunity to connect the education system of Northeast India with the global stage. The presence of international students will bring new experiences and perspectives to the local students as well.
Hon’ble Vice-Chancellor of Assam University, Professor Rajive Mohan Pant, congratulated the teachers, researchers, and staff members on this achievement.
He remarked, “Assam University is gradually becoming a trusted destination for international students. While maintaining academic excellence, we also aim to strengthen international relations. To ensure that foreign students can reside in a safe and comfortable environment, we have planned to construct separate hostels for them in the future.”
This announcement from the Vice-Chancellor has generated fresh enthusiasm among the faculty and students. Many believe that dedicated residential facilities will help international students adapt more easily to the local environment.
The Office of the Internationalisation of Higher Education (OIHE) of Assam University has played a crucial role in this success. Professor Dipendu Das, Working Chairman of OIHE, stated, “This interest from foreign students is not only the pride of Assam University but also of higher education across Northeast India. It proves that our academic standards are capable of meeting global benchmarks. Education today is no longer confined to books alone. When students from different countries attend classes, engage in research, and participate in discussions with us, a new field of knowledge creation will emerge.”
Dr. Barunjyoti Choudhury, Director of OIHE, further added, “Our goal is not only to bring students in but also to create an environment where they can share their own countries, cultures, and experiences. Through collaborative research, international seminars, and cultural exchange, we aim to make the university more global in every sense.”
The arrival of international students will not be limited to academics alone. It will also spark a new wave of cultural exchange. The university authorities are already planning to host cultural programs, orientation sessions, and exposure visits to introduce the new students to local traditions and heritage.
The Government of India has already launched the “Study in India” program, aimed at attracting students from across the globe to Indian universities. Assam University’s success aligns perfectly with this national initiative. Experts point out that the geographic location, natural beauty, and cultural diversity of Northeast India are major attractions for foreign students.
One international applicant commented via email, “I have heard that the faculty at Assam University are very supportive and the research environment is rich. I want not only to pursue my studies here but also to experience Indian culture closely.”
The university administration is also adopting long-term plans for international students. Along with separate hostels, a dedicated helpdesk will be set up to address issues related to visas, accommodation, healthcare, and language barriers. A special cell will be created for this purpose. Joint activities involving local and foreign students will also be arranged to build stronger relationships. Additionally, Assam University is planning to expand international research collaborations, initiate joint projects, organize seminars, and introduce faculty exchange programs with universities abroad.
The admission applications from international students at Assam University are not just an administrative success but a historic milestone. It demonstrates that this university in Northeast India is steadily shining on the global map of higher education. The arrival of foreign students will not only open new avenues in education and research but will also enrich the university’s environment through cultural and experiential exchanges. Faculty, researchers, and students of Assam University are proud of this achievement. They firmly believe that if this trend continues, Assam University will soon earn a distinguished reputation not only in India but in the international arena of higher education as well.
