India flies again; 39,231 passengers flew in 532 flights, 686 came to Guwahati

May 25: It was indeed a long wait for many who got stranded outside their home states in different parts of India since the declaration of nationwide lockdown augmented by the outbreak of coronavirus. After two months, domestic air service was resumed in India. Civil Aviation Minister Hardeep Singh Puri tweeted, “From no domestic passenger flights yesterday to 532 flights & 39,231 passengers today, action has returned to Indian skies.”

The Lokpriya Gopinath Bordoloi International (LGBI) Airport in Guwahati also witnessed much activity on Monday. Although on the first day of resumption of domestic flights, out of 32 scheduled arrivals and departures, only eight could operate in LGBI. A total of 686 passengers arrived in Guwahati in the eight flights. Hardeep Singh Puri tweeted, “With Andhra Pradesh set to resume operations from tomorrow & West Bengal from 28 May, these numbers are all set to increase further.”

All precautionary measures were taken for ensuring social distancing & safe handling of passengers with the cooperation of all airport agencies & state health departments. State Health Minister, Himanta Biswa Sarma aong with Minister of State Pijush Hazarika went to Guwahati Airport on Monday to check the preparedness. In a tweet, Himanta Biswa Sarma wrote, “All passengers will be screened for #COVID. People from Assam will be segregated and sent to respective districts. This is a daunting task and I urge everyone to co-operate.”
