Ex-gratia of ₹ 2 Lakh each handed over to family of Meherpur truck mishap by MP & Dy. Speaker
November 5: MP Silchar Dr. Rajdeep Roy and Deputy Speaker Aminul Haque Laskar handed over ex-gratia of ₹ 2 lakh each to the families of Sonali Das and Pompy Dey who died in a truck mishap on 30 October, 2019. Both of them went in person at the houses of the deceased at Meherpur Durgapally on Tuesday and handed over the assured ex-gratia.
However, the father of Sonali Das expressed resentment on the incidents that happened the day after the death of his daughter and reiterated that they were not allowed to do the customary rituals as per Hindu sastra before the dead body of his girl was taken for cremation. In response, Deputy Speaker Aminul Haque refuted all allegations and said, “We left the dead body of your daughter at your house for around 30 minutes and went to the house of Pompy Dey. Now, why you have not performed the rituals during that time? Who prevented you from doing so? We were not there in your house to stop you. Moreover, the face of your daughter was mutilated to such an extent that even I could not sleep for 3 nights after seeing her body.”
Dr. Rajdeep Roy too expressed displeasure at such allegations and said, “When these words will reach to the government, it will also feel pained because after doing so much for a family if such kinds of allegations are made then it is ofcourse very painful. I also know about the Hindu rituals. We never disallowed you to perform the rituals.”
Deputy Speaker and MP then went to the house of another deceased Pompy Dey where they interacted with her parents. Speaking to them, Dr. Rajdeep Roy said that strict action will be taken against the truck driver and he will be tried on charges of murder. However, the brother-in-law of the deceased said that though the MP and the MLA helped them a lot in the Medical College, but they could not forget the thing that they were not allowed to perform the rituals as per Hindu religion. To this the Deputy Speaker once again said that they never stopped anyone from performing any rituals.
Later on addressing the media, Deputy Speaker Aminul Haque said, “We left the body of Sonali Das at her house for half an hour. Who prevented the family members then to do the rituals? Even when we brought the body of Pompy Dey, we sat little far and gave time for the family. So why they did not do the rituals then. This is nothing but a deep anti-government conspiracy by some others with vested interests. I appeal not to do politics with the dead.” When asked about the persons being involved in this political conspiracy, Aminul replied, “Media persons are enough intelligent to understand this.”
