3 more COVID-19 positive cases detected in Hailakandi; tally rises to 321

July 4: Three more COVID-19 novel coronavirus positive cases have been detected in Hailakandi district on Saturday, taking the total tally to 321, including two deaths. Health authorities here revealed that Tangil Hussain Laskar, 20, Kamol Karmakar, 27 and Abdul Sufan Laskar 26, have all turned out to be positive. Of the three infected, two were under institutional quarantine facility at Polytechnic Institute and one at DIET quarantine centre.

Following the rise in number of COVID-19 positive cases, the district administration has closed down all barber shops and parlours and weekly or haat markets with immediate effect until further orders. Additional Deputy Commissioner cum Chief Executive Officer, District Disaster Management Authority, RK Dam informed that the administration had to take the steps to contain the spread of the disease in view of identification of some COVID-19 cases in the community. He further stated that all the owners and employees of barber shops would have to undergo swab tests and would have to remain in self-isolation till the swab results are out.

The decision to close down barber shops and beauty parlours was taken after a barber named Dejou Chanda, 51, tested COVID-19 positive on Friday. Swab samples of persons with whom the barber came in contact with are being collected by the health workers. Vigorous contact tracing is on. It may be mentioned that a nurse and a policeman were found COVID-19 positive a couple of days ago.

Meanwhile, the administration has declared seven new containment zones following detection of COVID-19 cases namely Dey’s Cold Storage in which two employees tested positive, under Ward No.1 of Hailakandi revenue circle, Appin RA under Katlicherra revenue circle, Ratanpur Part I under Hailakandi revenue circle, Sudarshanpur Part I under Hailakandi revenue circle, Algapur Part I under Algapur revenue circle, Panchgram village under Algapur revenue circle and Chandipur Grant-Bagmara under Hailakandi revenue circle on Friday evening.

With this, the number of containment, buffer zones in the district has risen to 21. Two COVID-19 positive patients viz., Mangoli Rani Das, 53, and Foijul Haque Barbhuiya, 65, breathed their last at Silchar Medical College and Hospital. 230 persons on being cured have been discharged from hospitals. There are 87 active cases, as per the health bulletin released on Friday evening. 33 patients are undergoing treatment at SK Roy designated COVID-19 Civil Hospital, 21 at MG Model Hospital, six at SMC&H and 27 at Algapur Model Hospital. Of the 8,571 swab samples taken so far, 6,986 turned out to be negative. Swab results of 1,099 are awaited. 1,078 persons are under facility quarantine centres while 4,018 persons under home quarantine.
