Cachar DC Mridul Yadav flags off month-long road safety awareness campaign with grassroots participation

Way2barak, August 1 : In a resolute push to foster a culture of safe commuting and responsible civic behaviour, the Cachar District Administration, under the stewardship of District Commissioner Mridul Yadav, launched a month-long district-wide road safety awareness campaign on Friday. Spearheaded by the District Road Safety Committee, the initiative aims to educate and engage the public through widespread outreach across educational institutions, public spaces and rural belts.

The campaign was ceremoniously flagged off from the District Commissioner’s office premises, where DC Mridul Yadav launched a specially designed mobile tableau that will travel across the district throughout August. Present at the event were Additional District Commissioner Antara Sen, District Transport Officer Ramesh Shyam and Assistant Commissioner, Bonnykha Chetia along with senior district officials and enthusiastic volunteers of Netaji Chhatra Yuba Sangstha, including their General Secretary Dilu Das.

In his brief address at the inauguration, DC Mridul Yadav said, “Road safety is not merely a government responsibility; it is a shared civic duty. Through this campaign, we aim to reach every section of society and make them conscious of the small yet critical steps that can prevent accidents and save lives. Awareness must translate into everyday action whether it’s wearing a helmet, following signals, or simply being mindful as pedestrians. We must collectively adopt these changes.”

The mobile tableau will cover all seven legislative constituencies of Cachar district, touching 15 development blocks and will engage with school and college students, local residents, and road users. The campaign features awareness materials including leaflets, road safety-themed songs, and public messages, with a special emphasis on the “Five Golden Rules of Road Safety.”

On the first day of the campaign, volunteers from Netaji Chhatra Yuba Sangstha were seen actively distributing leaflets and urging commuters at key traffic points in Silchar to follow traffic norms and show courtesy on the roads. Scheduled from August 1 to 31, the initiative reflects a collaborative approach between the district administration and civil society. Officials hope the campaign will lead to a sustained change in public attitudes towards road safety and significantly reduce preventable road incidents.
