COVID-19 in Haryana: A success story other states should follow

March 27: On 4 March, 14 Italian nationals traveling in Haryana were detected Corona Virus positive. This made Haryana the state with the maximum number of infected cases with Coronavirus. On that day, including this 14, there were as many as 22 infected patients in the entire nation. Till 10 March, Haryana had the maximum number of COVID-19 positive patients. However, on 12 March, Kerala took the lead.

Interestingly, till 17 March, Haryana registered no other Corona patient and they came down to the 3rd position. Today with 33 registered patients, Haryana is in 10 position. A noteworthy achievement in containing the numbers. From 4 March to 27 March, in 24 days, Haryana registered corona affected at a rate of little more than 1 patient per day. In the last three days, only 3 cases were registered in Haryana.

The major steps taken by the Haryana government are as follows:

  • The Haryana Government has asked all government, government aided and private medical colleges in the State to reserve at least 25 per cent of the beds for COVID-19 patients.
  • Expenditure on the treatment of COVID-19 positive patients whether in government or private hospital would be borne by the State Government.
  • 722 ventilators have been kept reserve for COVID-19 patients.
  • Adequate stock of N-95 masks and personal protective equipment (PPE) Kit is available in the State.

It is hoped that if other Indian states follow the measures adopted by Haryana, than the outbreak of coronavirus may be contained.
