2-day workshop on “Adaptation on extreme weather event” inaugurated in Cachar

December 18: A workshop in connection with “Adaptation on extreme weather event” was inaugurated at celebration hall Silchar on Friday. The workshop was organised by District Disaster Management Authority (DDMA), Cachar in association with Assam State Disaster Management Authority (ASDMA) with a goal to reduce vulnerability to harmful effects of climate change like more intense extreme weather events.

lighting of lamp by the in-charge Deputy Commissioner Cachar cum Chief Executive Officer DDMA, Cachar Jessica Lalsim and Additional Deputy Commissioner Cachar Sumit Sattawan.

I/C Deputy Commissioner Cum District Development Commissioner, Cachar, Jessica Lalsim explained the objectives and significance of the programme. While addressing the gathering she said, “It is very much important for us to preserve the nature and save ourselves from the adverse effects of climate we face, if this topic is not handled sensibly”. She also added that such workshops should be conducted off and on to spread awareness.

Additional Deputy Commissioner, Cachar, Sumit Sattawan gave the key note address. In his speech, the ADC emphasised on the importance of choosing the right path to find the way of sustainable development with regard to adaptation to extreme weather events. He said, “If we wish to bring change in our ways in treating the environment, then we must change ourselves first”. “We all have to be together in our urge to save the nature and develop a better future for the upcoming generations”. He quipped”.

The officer from the forest Department shared his thoughts about the importance to preserve the nature to avoid natural extremities. Later, a power point presentation was given by the resource persons from Assam University and by State project officer, training and capacity building, from Assam State disaster management authority and training was also imparted to the participants through a slide show. Various segments of the society comprising of teachers, students, research scholars, departmental officers from all line government departments, members from leading NGOs participated in the programme.

The 2 days workshops will end on Saturday where the outcome of the programme will be discussed and certificates of participation will be handed over to the participants who helped District Disaster management authority, Cachar in stepping towards another milestone by participating in the workshop on such an important aspect.
