Many Madrassas in Assam are unregistered & unauthorised; master directory to be created: DGP

way2barak, Sept.4: Director General of Police (DGP), Assam, Bhaskar Jyoti Mahanta met with Maulana Abdul Qadir- Secretary, Tanzim Council- that runs majority of madrasas in Assam, in presence of Hiren Nath, ADG (SB) on Sunday. During the meeting Maulana Abdul Qadir handed over the directory of all the madrasas run by Tanzim Council Assam.

Earlier, a high-level meeting between Assam police officials and representatives of four-minority organizations toon place on Sunday. The four organisations which participated in the meeting are: Jamiat Ulema-e-Hind, Ahl al-Hadij, Ahle Sunnat Jamaat and Nadwa during the meeting. The Madrassas under the four parent organizations have been urged to get themselves registered under the Registration of Society Act, said DGP to the media.

The groups assured their full support against the people indulging in anti-national activities. The representatives from the groups of the minority community were asked to enforce a certain set of rules while running Madrassas. The Madrassas under the four parent organizations have been urged to get themselves registered under the Registration of Society Act.

DGP Assam said, “Going forward, we want to create a master directory of all the madrasas being run in Assam. A tough job, as many of them are unregistered & unauthorised. Our objective – to prevent Anti-India, jihadi elements from utilizing the madrasas for their nefarious fundamentalist purposes.”
