Congress’ ‘Mehangai Par Halla Bol’ rally against inflation rocks Delhi

way2barak, Sept.4: The Congress’ Mehangai Par Halla Bol rally in the national capital on Sunday set the tone for its Kanyakumari to Kashmir Bharat Jodo Yatra that begins on September 7. Slogans of Rahul Gandhi Zindabad and Sonia Gandhi Zindabad reverberated through the air on Sunday as thousands of Congress supporters reached the Ramlila Maidan here to raise their voice against price rise and unemployment.

Addressing the huge gathering at Ramlila Maidan Sunday, Congress leader Rahul Gandhi said the party along with other Opposition parties “together we will defeat the ideology of the BJP and the RSS”. Congress leader Rahul Gandhi said that since the BJP came to power, anger and hatred have increased. He added that Narendra Modi is still the Prime Minister thanks to the media and two businessmen.

The rally also took place at a time when there is intense speculation on whether Rahul will contest the election for the post of party president, the process for which will kick off on September 24, and polling for which is scheduled to be held on October 17. The rally comes as a teaser to the Bharat Jodo Yatra, and the five-month-long walkathon itself is expected to place the party on course with regard to its preparations for the Lok Sabha elections in 2024.

Many Congress workers, came to attend the ‘Mehngai Par Halla Bol’ rally from various parts of the country. A 16-member delegation of Silchar District Congress Committee led by its President Tamal Kanti Banik too participated in this grand rally. The delegation also comprises of MLA Bisbaul Islam Laskar, Silchar Town Congress President Atanu Bhattacharjee, District Congress Secretary Abhijit Dhar among others.

As reports emerged that Congress workers were detained during a march to protest the rise in prices of essential commodities, Delhi police denied it and said no Congress worker has been detained so far.
