DC Cachar orders closure of educational institutions, coaching centres & hostels till 12 May

April 27: In the backdrop of the spike in the number of coronavirus cases, the state government of Assam has issued a series of orders in order to contain the further spread of the deadly virus. On Tuesday, in pursuance to an order issued by the Commissioner & Secretary to the Govt. of Assam, Elementary/ Secondary and Higher Education Department, Keerthi Jalli, in her capacity as the Chairperson of District Disaster Management Authority (DDMA), Cachar directed all Educational Institutions (both Government and Non-Government) from Pre-primary section to University level along with Hostels and Coaching Institutions to remain closed for a period of 15 days, i.e, upto 12 May, 2021.

She further stated that online classes have to be made available for the students. This order will come into effect with immediate effect. A copy of the letter was also marked to the Registrar of NIT Silchar and Assam University, Inspector of Schools, DEEO Cachar, all Block Elementary Education Officers, all heads of educational institutions, hostels and coaching centres in Cachar.

It needs mention here that the Govt. order No. ASE.01/2020/Pt-V/4, Dated:27/04/2021 issued by Commissioner & Secretary to the Govt. of Assam, Elementary/Secondary and Higher Education Department, Dispur authorised the Deputy Commissioners & Chairman of District Disaster Management Authority (DDMA) to pass such closure orders as and when the total COVID-19 cases exceeds 300 in last 10 days.

Meanwhile, there were 582 active Covid cases in Cachar district till 26 April, 2021, out of which, 29 were admitted at Silchar Medical College & Hospital (SMCH), 12 at MH, 13 at SM Dev Civil Hospital, 21 at Green Heals Pvt Hospital and 2 at CRPF Doyapur. Apart from this, 505 patients were in home isolation.
