Jorhat-Majuli ferry service e-tickets to be available through Mobile App
Oct. 1: Assam Chief Minister Dr. Himanta Biswa Sarma on Wednesday has announced that Nimati-Majuli ferry tickets will be available online mode through an app and a website. CM Sharma said, “No need to stand in long queues for tickets. E-tickets will be made available online through a mobile app”.
After the tragic boat incident, passengers have been facing lot of inconvenience due to lack of boats as the government has put a ban on single-engine ferries from operating in the river Brahmaputra. He stated that a total of 8 ferries would run in Majuli. There will be hassle-free ferry services for the passengers that will be carried out soon.
The online service for booking tickets will ease things for the passengers. “I am in talks with Union Minister Sarbananda Sonowal and requested him for two jetties and two RoPax boats for Assam. His response was positive and then we can give one more RoPax for Majuli,” CM Sarma said. As per CM Sharma, for the remaining eight ferries in Majuli, marine engines were ordered which will take up to 50-60 days to arrive and till then those eight boats will remain suspended from operating.
The portal has been developed by Assam Electronics Development Corporation Limited (AMTRON) and will be used for other ferry routes of the state in a phased manner.
