Himanta Biswa Sarma to visit Silchar on Sunday

August 15: State Health Minister, Dr. Himanta Biswa Sarma is scheduled to visit Silchar on Sunday. As per sources, the minister is supposed to visit Silchar Medical College & Hospital (SMCH) and take stock of the situation there. Further, Himanta Biswa Sarma is also likely to meet the officials and review the coronavirus situation in the district. However, it is not clear as to whether the minister will visit Karimganj and Hailakandi or meet with the district officials of the other two districts in Silchar.

After almost a week’s spike, the number of coronavirus positive cases in Barak Valley along with the rest of Assam came down. On Friday, the number of fresh cases was much less in the valley in comparison to the previous day. A total of 143 new COVID-19 positive cases were detected from the three districts of Barak Valley. It needs mention here that on Thursday, Barak Valley registered 396 positive cases.

Here is the district-wise break up of fresh COVID-19 positive cases detected on Friday in Barak Valley:

• Cachar: 97 positive cases   (It was 307 on Thursday)
• Karimganj: 12 positive cases  (It was 17 on Thursday)
• Hailakandi: 34 positive cases (It was 72 on Thursday)
