NFR Leads Green Initiative at Sairang Railway Station in Collaboration with Government of Mizoram

way2barak, 20th June : In a significant initiative aimed at promoting environmental sustainability, enhancing passenger amenities and fostering community participation, Northeast Frontier Railway (NFR) in collaboration with the Department of Environment, Forest & Climate Change, Government of Mizoram and Clean & Green Revolution Mizoram, organised a tree plantation, beautification and cleanliness drive at Sairang Railway Station recently. The programme reflects the shared commitment of all stakeholders towards creating cleaner, greener and more passenger-friendly railway stations while contributing to environmental conservation and sustainable development.
As part of the initiative, tree plantation activities, flower garden development and a comprehensive cleanliness campaign were carried out within and around the station premises, enhancing its aesthetic appeal and ecological value. The Department of Environment, Forest & Climate Change, Government of Mizoram, extended valuable support by providing 50 April tree saplings and 50 Chawnpui tree saplings for plantation. These plantations are expected to strengthen the green cover around the station, improve the local environment, support biodiversity and contribute to a healthier and more pleasant atmosphere for passengers, railway employees and nearby residents.
Speaking on the occasion, the Chairperson of Clean & Green Revolution Mizoram, Mrs. Lalmalsawmi, highlighted the organisation’s vision of transforming Sairang Railway Station into one of the cleanest, greenest and most beautiful railway stations in India. She appreciated the support and cooperation extended by NFR and the Government of Mizoram in undertaking beautification measures that will further enhance the station environment and create a welcoming experience for passengers and visitors.
The programme was attended by Shri Agni Mitra, Conservator (Planning) Department of Environment, Forest & Climate Change, Government of Mizoram, Pu JK Dawngzuala, Chairman, Zo Highways and Agriculture Development Company Limited and senior officials of Lumding Division of NFR. The dignitaries appreciated the initiative and highlighted the importance of collective efforts in promoting environmental conservation and sustainable development. The campaign witnessed enthusiastic participation from members of the Self-Help Group, Sihhmui, the Commercial Vehicle Union, Sairang, local residents and railway officials, demonstrating a strong sense of collective responsibility towards environmental stewardship and community well-being.
Northeast Frontier Railway continues to promote environmental sustainability through collaborative initiatives with government agencies, local organisations and communities. Such efforts contribute to creating cleaner, greener and more passenger-friendly railway environments while fostering greater awareness towards environmental conservation and sustainable development.
