Silchar to resonate with 5,000 voices in grand tribute to Dr Bhupen Hazarika on November 5 at Police Parade Ground

way2barak, Nov 1: The Cachar District Administration is all set to pay a stirring tribute to Bharat Ratna Dr. Bhupen Hazarika with an extraordinary cultural celebration at the Police Parade Ground on November 5. The event, expected to draw thousands, will see an awe-inspiring chorus of 5,000 voices singing the maestro’s timeless song “Manush Manusher Jonno,” celebrating his universal message of love, humanity, and social harmony.
The preparations for the grand event took shape at a meeting chaired by District Commissioner Shri Mridul Yadav at the news conference hall of DC’S office in Silchar on saturday, where detailed arrangements were discussed to ensure the smooth and dignified observance of the revered artist’s death anniversary. The meeting was attended by senior officials from various departments, educational institutions, and cultural organizations. Additional District Commissioner (Cultural Affairs) Smt. Phyllis Hrangchal welcomed all members and outlined the objectives of the event, emphasizing its importance in preserving and promoting Dr. Hazarika’s enduring musical and cultural legacy.
According to the plan, the commemoration will begin at 3 PM with a floral tribute to Dr. Hazarika by the District Commissioner, invited dignitaries, senior citizens, and prominent cultural personalities. The focal point of the programme will be the mass chorus performance, featuring 5,000 participants rendering “Manush Manusher Jonno” in unison, followed by a 17- Minute Grand Chorus Medley , the same musical piece that captivated audiences during the centenary celebrations held in Guwahati.
A parallel programme will also be organized in Lakhipur Co-District, where 500 performers will join in paying homage through the same song. To ensure seamless coordination, a final rehearsal of all participants will be held on November 4 at the Police Parade Ground, Silchar. In a progressive move, the District Administration will issue self-generated participation certificates, digitally signed by the District Commissioner, through an online portal for all students taking part in the event.
Cachar District Commissioner Mridul Yadav has also laid special emphasis on inclusivity and community participation. Social workers, NGOs, local cultural organizations, clubs, tea garden workers, NCC, NSS, ASLRM groups, PSUs, and government departments are being encouraged to take part. Representation from all legislative constituencies of Cachar district will make the programme a collective celebration of unity through art and music.
As part of the detailed arrangements, various departments have been assigned specific responsibilities. The Inspector of Schools, Cachar, will coordinate the participation of students from schools, ensuring rehearsals are conducted efficiently. All students are to report by 1PM on the event day, wearing white shirts for boys and traditional attire for girls. Universities and college authorities will also submit their participant lists and oversee preparations.
To maintain law and order, the Police Department will deploy an adequate security and traffic management plan. The Health Department will ensure ambulance and medical support at the venue, while the Information and Public Relations Department, Barak Valley Region, will handle media coverage and publicity. The Department of Food, Civil Supplies and Consumer Affairs will provide refreshment packets to all participants.
Following the State Government’s Standard Operating Procedure (SOP), the District Commissioner will act as the nodal officer for organizing the district-level observance. The event’s cultural segment will feature local artists and expert committee members performing Dr. Hazarika’s compositions, culminating in a moving human chain formation during the collective singing of “Manush Manusher Jonno.” Male volunteers across departments and organizations have been encouraged to wear white attire , a symbol of peace, purity, and the harmony that defined Dr Bhupen Hazarika’s art.
Notably,the November 5 event, scheduled to begin at 3 PM, will be graced by Shri Kaushik Rai, Hon’ble Minister for Food, Public Distribution and Consumer Affairs, Mines and Minerals, and Barak Valley Development Department, along with several dignitaries and distinguished guests.
Meanwhile, District Commissioner, Mridul Yadav said the event is a heartfelt effort to unite the people of Cachar through the power of music and the spirit of togetherness that Dr. Hazarika embodied. “Dr Bhupen Hazarika’s songs transcend boundaries and continue to inspire generations. This programme is not just a tribute but a reaffirmation of the values he stood for humanity, unity, and cultural pride,” he added.
The meeting was also attended by Co-District Commissioner,Dholai ,Roktim Baruah, Lakhipur Co- District Commissioner, Dhrubajoyti Pathak Assistant Commissioners, Bonnykha Chetia,Deepa Das, Anjali Kumari and other officials.
