Draft electoral roll published in Cachar ahead of 2026 revision drive

way2barak, December 27:– District Commissioner Shri Mridul Yadav formally announced today the publication of the Draft Photo Electoral Roll for all seven Assembly Constituencies under the Cachar Election District. He stated that the Draft Electoral Roll was published in accordance with the directions of the Election Commission of India (ECI), as part of the Special Revision of Electoral Rolls under Section 21 of the Representation of the People Act, 1950, with January 1, 2026, fixed as the qualifying date.
The Draft Electoral Roll encompasses 114-Lakhipur, 115-Udharbond, 116-Katigorah, 117-Borkhola, 118-Silchar, 119-Sonai and 120-Dholai (SC) Legislative Assembly Constituencies. Citizens can inspect the Draft Electoral Roll at the Office of the District Election Officer, Cachar, as well as through the respective Booth Level Officers (BLOs) in each Assembly Constituency. In keeping with the ECI’s thrust on digital access, claims and objections may also be filed online through the official portal https://voters.eci.gov.in.
The District Election Officer informed in a press conference that the window for filing claims and objections will remain open from December 27, 2025, to January 22, 2026. To ensure wider outreach and maximum voter facilitation, special campaign dates have been scheduled on January 3 and 4, and January 10 and 11, 2026, during which intensified awareness and facilitation activities will be carried out across all constituencies. All claims and objections received will be duly disposed of by February 2, 2026, followed by the final publication of the Electoral Roll on February 10, 2026.
As per the Draft Electoral Roll published on December 27, 2025, the Cachar Election District now has a total of 14,15,439 electors spread across 1,732 polling stations. Of these, 7,01,888 are male voters, 7,13,533 are female voters and 18 belong to the third gender category. Among the constituencies, Silchar LAC has the highest number of electors at 2,22,351, reflecting the district’s urban profile, while Lakhipur LAC accounts for 1,76,612 electors. The constituency-wise data reflects steady growth and balanced demographic participation across the district.
To ensure accuracy, transparency and fairness in the revision process, an extensive administrative framework has been put in place. The district is being served by seven Electoral Registration Officers, assisted by 14 Assistant Electoral Registration Officers, 46 Additional Assistant EROs, 89 BLO Supervisors and 1,732 Booth Level Officers. This comprehensive field-level machinery has been deployed to facilitate voters, address grievances and ensure that no eligible citizen is excluded from the electoral roll.
Clarifying the statutory safeguards available, the DC Mridul Yadav stated that any appeal against the decision of an Electoral Registration Officer may be preferred before the District Magistrate, Cachar, under Section 24(a) of the Representation of the People Act, 1950. A second appeal, if required, shall lie with the Chief Electoral Officer, Assam, under Section 24(b) read with Rule 27 of the Registration of Electors Rules, 1960.
Emphasising the importance of public participation, District Commissioner  Mridul Yadav appealed to all eligible citizens, particularly first-time voters, women and members of marginalised sections to carefully verify their particulars in the Draft Electoral Roll and submit claims or objections within the stipulated timeframe. He reiterated that a clean, accurate and inclusive electoral roll remains the foundation of free and fair elections, and assured that the District Administration is fully committed to safeguarding the sanctity of the democratic process in Cachar.
For reference, as per the Final Electoral Roll as on January 6, 2025, the district had 13,93,482 electors, indicating a steady rise in voter enrolment over the past year. The ongoing revision exercise is expected to further strengthen the integrity and inclusiveness of the electoral database.
The press conference was attended by District Development Commissioner Rajib Roy, Election Officer Masi Topno and other senior officials of the District Election Office.
The District Administration, Cachar, has called upon all stakeholders including recognised political parties, civil society organisations and the general public to actively cooperate in this crucial democratic exercise and contribute towards building a transparent, participatory and credible electoral system.
