NGO Paavan distribute clothes among the poor & needy in Silchar
Oct. 19: Durga Puja symbolises the welcoming of the new. However, this year due to the ongoing pandemic, the glamour of the festival has receded to the background. Those earning their livelihood by working as daily wage workers are at the receiving end. Keeping this aspect in view, NGO Paavan organised a ‘cloth distribution programme’ on the eve of the forthcoming Durga Puja.
The members of Paavan distributed both old and new clothes in the area around Veterinary Bazaar under Ghoongur GP, Silchar. The programme was conducted in Veterinary Bazaar by lane and was wholeheartedly assisted by Ranju Bhattacharya of the area. Through this endeavour, PAAVAN could reach its helping hand to nearly 200 people, comprising mostly of women, children and aged folks.
Present on behalf of Paavan were Arundhati Dutta Choudhury, Anushka Chakraborty, Sudutta Deb and Saptayudh Dutta Choudhury.
Arundhati Dutta Choudhury said, “We have formed PAAVAN to do something beneficial for the marginalised sections of the society. I along with Anusakha Chakraborty founded this organisation. In fact, when we sat to finalise the name of our organisation, we were six members by that time. So we decided to keep a name out of the first six alphabets of our names. The six members are Priya, Arundhati, Anusakha, Vijoyeta, Anindita and Namrata.”
