Barak Valley registers 613 Covid +ve cases on Wednesday; 3 deaths registered

May 12: The number of coronavirus positive cases are on the rise in the three districts of Barak Valley along with the rest of Assam. On Wednesday, the number of fresh cases in the valley increased once again. A total of 613 new COVID-19 positive cases were detected from the three districts of Barak Valley during the day. It needs mention here that on Tuesday, Barak Valley registered 473 positive cases. At present, there are 2,308 active Covid cases in Barak Valley.

Here is the district-wise break up of fresh COVID-19 positive cases detected on Wednesday in Barak Valley:

• Cachar: 370 positive cases   (It was 262 on Tuesday)
• Karimganj: 126 positive cases (It was 110 on Tuesday)
• Hailakandi: 117 positive cases (It was 101 on Tuesday)

A total of 370 new cases of COVID-19 was reported on Wednesday in Cachar. As per the updated data, a total of 2,174 Rapid Antigen Tests (RAT) were done, out of which, a total of 206 persons were found positive in Rapid Antigen Test (RAT), whereas 164 more were detected positive in RT-PCR Test. This was informed by Dr. Ibrahim Ali Ahmed, District Surveillance Officer (DSO), IDSP, Cachar on Wednesday night. With this, the total number of Covid cases in 2021 reached 3,303 in 2021, whereas during the year, 2,271 patients were discharged. The  number of active cases in Cachar has crossed the 1000 mark & reached 1009 .

Wednesday witnessed demise of three more Covid-19 positive patients at Silchar Medical College & Hospital (SMCH). However, none of them were from Cachar district. This was informed by Dr. Bhaskar Gupta, Vice Principal of SMCH. Their detailed reports were forwarded to the State Death Audit Board as per the protocol. Out of the 3 deceased at SMCH on 12 May, 2 are from Karimganj district, while 01 is from Hailakandi. The deceased were identified as: Md Nazim Uddin Barbhuiyan (69) from Ward No 3 in Hailakandi, Kishore Das Gupta (60) from Badarpur in Karimganj district and Chandanlal Sen (75) also from Badarpur in Karimganj district.

Hailakandi registered 117 new COVID-19 cases on Wednesday. Of the 117 positive cases detected on Wednesday, 101 have been found positive under Rapid Antigen Test (RAT) and 16 found positive in RT-PCR test. The district has altogether 538 active COVID-19 cases. During the day, 855 RAT tests and 52 RT-PCR tests were done. 51 patients were discharged during the day. It needs mention here that 101 persons were found positive in Hailakandi on Tuesday.

Karimganj reported 126 fresh COVID-19 cases on Wednesday, pushing the coronavirus tally in the district to 5,550. Of the 126 active cases detected on Wednesday, 124 have been found positive under Rapid Antigen Test and two under RT-PCR. It needs mention here that 110 persons were found positive in Karimganj on Tuesday. The district has altogether 761 active COVID-19 cases while 83 patients have been discharged from hospital and home isolation on Wednesday.

On Wednesday, out of 63,956 tests, 5,657 persons were detected as COVID-19 positive in Assam. With this, the state tally of coronavirus has now gone upto 3,10,086. The positivity rate in the state is 8.85 percent. Kamrup (Metro) district registered 1,456 positive cases during the day. Further, on Wednesday, 71 more persons lost their lives in the state due to COVID-19. With this, the death toll in the state reached 1,909. On Wednesday, 3,880 patients were discharged in Assam. With this, a total of 2,65,860 patients got cured and were subsequently discharged.

Further, during the day, 71 patients died in Assam due to COVID-19. Out of the 71 deceased, 26 are from Kamrup Metro; 07 from Kamrup Rural; 4 each from Barpeta, Darrang & Dibrugarh; 3 each from Nalbari, Sonitpur, Tinsukia & Karbianglong; 2 each from Karimganj, Bongaigaon & Golaghat; 1 each from Baksa, Cachar & Hailakandi. The death tally of the state now stands at 1,909.
