Rajya Sabha passes bill to restore power of states & UTs to make their own OBC lists

Aug. 11: The Rajya Sabha on Wednesday passed the Constitution (127th Amendment) Bill 2021 which proposes to restore the power of the states and Union Territories to make their own Other Backward Classes (OBC) lists. The Bill was passed by the Lok Sabha on Tuesday. Moving the bill in the Rajya Sabha, Social Justice and Empowerment Minister Virendra Kumar said it will help restore the powers of states to have their own lists of OBCs which was negated by the Supreme Court.
