With Tarun Gogoi’s demise, Assam lost one of its tallest politician for decades, writes Dr. Rajdeep Roy

Nov. 24: The demise of former Assam Chief Minister and veteran Congress leader Tarun Gogoi marks the end of an era in the politics of Assam. Infact, Assam has lost one of its tallest politician for decades. He was a seasoned politician who led the state for 15 long years. My prayers are with his family.

I had the opportunity of interacting with Tarun Gogoi. Once he came down to the central hall of the Parliament and met with the parliamentarians from Assam. He shared a cup of tea with us. His jovial nature was very impressive. His smiling face was perhaps the signature of his personality, which made people to easily remember and recall the exploits of his long impressive political career.

Chief Minister Sarbananda Sonowal announced that the State government would observe three-day State mourning in honour of the former Chief Minister Tarun Gogoi who breathed his last on Monday evening. Assam Pradesh Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) has mourned the demise of former Assam Chief Minister Tarun Gogoi and has declared to suspend all party programmes till 26 November, 2020. I deeply mourn the loss and do pray that his soul may rest in peace.
