COVID vaccine developed by Oxford Univ & Novavax to cost ₹225 per dose in India

August 7: Serum Institute of India (SII) has capped the price of coronavirus vaccine, developed by Oxford University and Novavax at ₹225 per dose in India. The vaccine candidate by Oxford University for which AstraZeneca has the licence is under advanced stages of clinical trials in India and several other countries and is likely to be available for public use in the first half of 2021. This experimental vaccine was found to show good results in early-stage human trials.

Serum Institute of India (SII) on Friday said it has entered into a new partnership with international vaccine alliance Gavi and Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation to accelerate manufacturing and delivery of up to 100 million doses of COVID-19 vaccines for India as well as other low and middle-income countries (LMICs). “We are very happy to see SII enter this global partnership to respond to the global health crisis posed by COVID-19,” Renu Swarup, secretary in the Department of Biotechnology, Government of India, said.
