Meeting on seat reservations for panchayat elections held in Cachar
way2barak, December 30: On Monday, the Conference Hall of the Office of the DC’S office witnessed a significant gathering of political representatives, administrative officials, and other stakeholders to deliberate on the seat reservation arrangements for the upcoming Panchayat Elections. The meeting, chaired by Mridul Yadav, District Commissioner of Cachar, underscored the importance of maintaining transparency and adherence to the Election Commission’s guidelines while ensuring equitable representation in the Panchayati Raj Institutions (PRI).
The discussions revolved around the reservation of seats for women, Scheduled Castes (SC), and Scheduled Tribes (ST), highlighting the commitment of the district administration to inclusivity and diversity. Addressing the attendees, DC Yadav emphasized that the objective was to uphold democratic values while facilitating fair representation at all levels of the Panchayat system.
Prominent officials present at the meeting included, Pranab Kumar Borah, Chief Executive Officer of Cachar Zilla Parishad; Norsing Bey, District Development Commissioner; and Van Lal Limpuiya Nampui, Additional District Commissioner (Elections) and Executive Officer of Silchar Municipal Board. Their participation, along with other key officers such as Masi Topno, Election Officer of Cachar, and various Circle Officers, ensured a comprehensive review of the reservation framework.
The meeting also brought together Block Development Officers from across Cachar district, Executive Officers from municipal boards like Sonai, Badarpur, and Lakhipur, and other concerned staff of the Cachar District Administration. Their inputs enriched the deliberations, ensuring that the policies reflect the ground realities and address the needs of the diverse population.
This collaborative effort marked a step forward in fostering a participatory approach to governance, with all political parties and stakeholders coming together to shape a transparent and fair electoral process.
