Ahead of assembly polls, Assam Excise Deptt opens helpline numbers for information on illegal liquor sale

Jan. 29: In a significant move, the Assam Excise Department started two helpline numbers in order to gather intelligence inputs about illegal production, storage, sale of liquor and to receive the grievances and information of the violation of rule and distribution of liquor among voters to influence voting in the state. The order shall come into force from January 29, 2021.

Two officials were deputed to handle these helpline numbers. They shall register every information and complaint received from general public or group, and will accordingly pass on the same to the concerned Superintendent of Excise. However, if the information is discreet in nature then it must be immediately forwarded on to the joint Commissioner of Excise (EIB), Assam for necessary action.
