Barak Valley registers 99 Covid +ve cases on Thursday, 86 discharged & 2 deaths reported

There are 770 active Covid cases in Barak Valley

July 15: The number of coronavirus positive cases are gradually decreasing in the three districts of Barak Valley along with the rest of Assam. On Thursday, the number of fresh cases in the valley was almost same. A total of 99 new COVID-19 positive cases were detected from the three districts of Barak Valley during the day. Further, during the day, 86 patients were cured and subsequently discharged in the three districts of the valley. At present, there are 770 active Covid cases in Barak Valley. It needs mention here that on Wednesday, Barak Valley registered 100 positive cases.

Here is the district-wise break up of fresh COVID-19 positive cases detected on Thursday in Barak Valley:

  • Cachar: 54 positive cases   (It was 67 on Wednesday)
  • Karimganj: 36 positive cases (It was 18 on Wednesday)
  • Hailakandi: 09 positive cases (It was 15 on Wednesday)

A total of 54 new cases of COVID-19 was reported on Thursday in Cachar. As per the updated data, a total of 3,610 Rapid Antigen Test (RAT) were done, out of which, 46 persons were found positive, whereas 08 more were detected positive in RT-PCR Test. With this, the total number of Covid cases since 1 April, 2021 reached 18,434 whereas during this phase, 17,883 patients were discharged. The number of active cases in Cachar has reached 377. Also, 57 patients were discharged during the day.  The Covid-19 situation in Cachar is gradually improving. There has been substantial decline in the number of daily positive cases. However, the last 24 hours (5 PM on 14 July to 5 PM on 15 July) witnessed the death of 02 Covid-19 positive patients at Silchar Medical College & Hospital (SMCH). Their detailed reports were forwarded to the State Death Audit Board. This was informed by Dr. Bhaskar Gupta, Vice Principal of SMCH on Thursday evening. Both of them are from Cachar district.

The deceased were identified as Kalyan Kumar Deb (65) from Udharbond in Cachar and Kartik Goala (80) from Badri Basti in Cachar district.

Dr Bhaskar Gupta, Vice Principal of SMCH informed that till 5 PM on 15 July, there were 89 Covid-19 active patients at Silchar Medical College, out of which 59 patients were there in the ICU, whereas, 30 of them were in the Covid ward. Further, 10 patients were put under ventilator support and 70 of them were in oxygen support. In the last 24 hours, 10 Covid positive patients were admitted at SMCH and 06 of them were discharged.

Hailakandi registered 09 new COVID-19 cases on Thursday. Of the 09 positive cases detected on Thursday, 07 of them have been found positive under Rapid Antigen Test (RAT) whereas 02 persons were detected positive in RT-PCR test. The district has altogether 114 active COVID-19 cases. During the day, 1,416 RAT tests and 313 RT-PCR tests were done. 08 patients were discharged during the day. With this, the district tally of Covid cases has now reached 7,678 (both 1st & 2nd wave).

As of now, a total of 4,142 patients were discharged. It needs mention here that 15 persons were found positive in Hailakandi on Wednesday. Till date 47 persons died due to Covid-19 in Hailakandi district.

 Karimganj registered 36 fresh COVID-19 cases on Thursday. The district has currently 279 active COVID-19 cases, while 21 patients have been discharged from hospitals and home isolation on Thursday. 4,615 swab samples were collected during the day. It needs mention here that 18 positive cases were detected in Karimganj on Wednesday.

On Thursday, out of 1,20,908 tests, 1,992 persons were detected as COVID-19 positive in Assam. With this, the state tally of coronavirus has now gone upto 5,42,445. The positivity rate in the state is 1.65 percent. Kamrup (Metro) district registered 263 positive cases during the day. Further, on Thursday, 27 more persons lost their lives in the state due to COVID-19. With this, the death toll in the state reached 4,937. The recovery rate is 95.32 percent. On Thursday, 2,498 patients were discharged in Assam. With this, a total of 5,17,041 patients got cured and were subsequently discharged. At present, there are 19,120 active cases in the state.

Further, during the day, 27 patients died in Assam due to COVID-19. Out of the 27 deceased, 05 are from Jorhat, 04 from Dibrugarh; 02 each from Cachar, Darrang, Kamrup Metro, Karbi Anglong, Morigaon & Sonitpur; 01 each from Barpeta, Biswanath, Hojai, Kamrup Rural, Kokhrajhar & Tinsukia. The death tally of the state now stands at 4,937.
