With 2,632 active cases, chances of easing restrictions post-15 June in Cachar is grim

June 12: The ongoing Covid restrictions in Assam will continue till 5 AM of 16 June, 2021 following which, there would be any blanket covering guidelines for the entire state. This was hinted by Chief Minister Dr Himanta Biswa Sarma himself, a few days back. “The districts which will perform better will get more relaxations. It will be more on a scientific pattern. It will not be like opening or relaxing all restrictions together in the entire state,” said the Chief Minister.

Himanta Biswa Sarma further said, “It is my firm belief that from this month onwards, we may get some relief as because the number of fresh cases of coronavirus is gradually decreasing.” That means, Covid curfew hours may be relaxed from 16 June, 2021. The new timings for restriction in movement could be from 4 or 5 PM from 16 June. However, as stated, all districts would not be able to enjoy this relaxation in curfew hours. At present, there are atleast six districts in Assam where the number of active cases of coronavirus are more than 2,500. These districts are Kamrup Metro, Cachar, Tinsukia, Dibrugarh, Nagaon & Sonitpur. However, Kamrup Metro has shown tremendous improvement in the Covid scenario and so as an exception may be allowed relaxation.

As per the available data (Source: NHM Assam Twitter), there are 10 districts in Assam, wherein positive cases in the last 10 days (3 June to 12 June, 2021) are above 1,000. These districts are: Kamrup Metro (3,391), Cachar (3,147), Tinsukia (2,512), Dibrugarh (2,394), Nagaon (2,312), Sonitpur (2,308), Morigaon (1,743), Kamrup Rural (1,721), Golaghat (1,702), Goalpara (1,449), Jorhat (1,418) and Lakhimpur (1,015).

On 12 June, Cachar registered 251 fresh positive cases. During the day, 4 more Covid positive patients also lost their lives at Silchar Medical college & Hospital (SMCH). At present, there are 2,632 active cases of covid-19 in Assam. Now, if from 16 June, curfew relaxations are declared district wise basing on the positivity rate and active case load, then in all probability, Cachar will not enjoy the relaxations. The new guidelines are expected to be declared on 15 June. So, if by then, the positivity rate in Cachar dips down below 2 percent and also the active cases goes down, then the district has got some hope of enjoying curfew relaxations.
