5 members of a family from Itkhola taken to SMCH who were in same coach with that of COVID positive patient!

March 31: Assam’s first coronavirus positive case was reported on Tuesday evening. A 52-year old man who recently came from Delhi via Hathigaon in Guwahati to Badarpur was tested COVID-19 positive. It was learnt that the man travelled back by Rajdhani Express. As per instruction of the state health minister, the government apparatus started to enquire about the travel history of the person.

As per sources, health officials traced a family who was in the same train compartment as that of the 52-year COVID-19 positive person who is at present undergoing treatment at Silchar Medical College and Hospital (SMCH). The 5 members of the family, who resides at Khashiya Patty in Itkhola area of Silchar were taken by an ambulance to SMCH by health authorities on Tuesday night. All of them were sent for quarantine.

UPDATES: It was later on learnt that people from the locality at Khashiya Patty in Itkhola informed the health authorities about that family and on this basis, all the 5 members were taken by an ambulance to SMCH. However, it was then disclosed that they did not travel in Rajdhani Express in which the 52-year old COVID-19 positive person travelled. Rather, they came to Silchar by Sampark Kranti Express on 21 March. As such, they were dropped back home in the night itself with instruction for 14 days home quarantine as none of them had any symptoms of the disease.
