ওয়ে টু বরাক, ৯ জানুয়ারি : প্রাক্তন কেন্দ্রীয় যোগাযোগ প্রতিমন্ত্রী ও বিশিষ্ট রাজনীতিবিদ কবীন্দ্র পুরকায়স্থের মৃত্যুতে শোকাহত আসাম বিশ্ববিদ্যালয় পরিবার। শুক্রবার আসাম বিশ্ববিদ্যালয়ের রাজা রামমোহন রায় প্রশাসনিক ভবনের সামনে এক শোকসভা আয়োজিত হয়। ছাত্র-শিক্ষক-শিক্ষাকর্মীদের উপস্থিতিতে আয়োজিত শোকসভায় প্রয়াত জননেতার রাজনৈতিক জীবন, সামাজিক অবদান এবং উত্তর-পূর্ব ভারতের উন্নয়নে তাঁর ভূমিকার কথা কৃতজ্ঞতার সঙ্গে স্মরণ করা হয়।

বক্তারা বলেন, একজন নিষ্ঠাবান জননেতা হিসেবে তিনি দীর্ঘদিন ধরে সাধারণ মানুষের কল্যাণে কাজ করে গেছেন। তাঁর মৃত্যু রাজ্য ও দেশের রাজনীতিতে এক অপূরণীয় ক্ষতি। তাঁর আদর্শ ও কর্মজীবন ভবিষ্যৎ প্রজন্মের কাছে অনুপ্রেরণা হয়ে থাকবে। অধ্যাপক চিররঞ্জন ভট্টাচার্য বক্তব্য পেশ করতে গিয়ে প্রয়াত এই জননেতার নামে বিশ্ববিদ্যালয়ের ভবন কিংবা কক্ষের নামকরণের প্রস্তাব দেন। অন্যদিকে অধ্যাপক মেহমুদ আলম আনসারি প্রয়াত এই জননেতার জীবন-সংগ্রাম নিয়ে গবেষণার ওপর গুরুত্ব আরোপ করেন।

অধ্যাপক অনুপ কুমার দে প্রয়াত নেতার জীবন কীভাবে রাষ্ট্রীয় স্বয়ংসেবক সংঘের সঙ্গে সংপৃক্ত ছিল, তার বিস্তৃত তথ্য তুলে ধরেন। আসাম বিশ্ববিদ্যালয় অশিক্ষক কর্মচারী সংস্থার সভাপতি দেবাশিস চক্রবর্তী আক্ষেপ করে বলেন, কবীন্দ্র পুরকায়স্থ যে বড়মাপের নেতা ছিলেন, সেই হিসেবে তাঁর সঠিক মূল্যায়ন হয়নি। প্রাসঙ্গিক বক্তব্য রাখেন অধ্যাপিকা করবী দত্তচৌধুরী, অধ্যাপক অমলেন্দু চক্রবর্তী, অধ্যাপক সৌমেন্দ্র ভট্টাচার্য, অধ্যাপক প্রণব বিহারী মজুমদার, কলেজ ডেভেলপমেন্ট কাউন্সিলের ডিরেক্টর জয়ন্ত ভট্টাচার্য সহ আরও অনেকে। শেষে শোকপ্রস্তাব পাঠ করেন নিবন্ধক প্রদোষ কিরণ নাথ।

এরপর দু’মিনিট নীরবতা পালন করে প্রয়াত আত্মার শান্তি কামনা করা হয় এবং বিশ্ববিদ্যালয়ের মূল প্রবেশদ্বারের সামনে প্রয়াত জননেতার প্রতিকৃতিতে পুষ্পার্ঘ্য অর্পণ করা হয়। শোকসন্তপ্ত পরিবারের প্রতি গভীর সমবেদনা জ্ঞাপন করা হয়। এদিনের সভা পরিচালনা করেন কিশোর কান্তি পাল। প্রসঙ্গত, আসাম বিশ্ববিদ্যালয় ২০২৪ সালে কবীন্দ্র পুরকায়স্থকে সমাজ সেবায় তাঁর অসামান্য অবদানের স্বীকৃতি হিসেবে সাম্মানিক ডক্টরেট ডিগ্রি প্রদান করে।

Way2barak, January 9 : The Assam University fraternity mourned the demise of former Union Minister of State for Communications and eminent politician Kabindra Purkayastha. On Friday, a condolence meeting was held in front of the Raja Rammohan Roy Administrative Building of Assam University. In the presence of students, teachers, and non-teaching staff, speakers gratefully recalled the late leader’s political life, social contributions, and his role in the development of Northeast India.

The speakers said that as a dedicated public leader, he had worked tirelessly for the welfare of the common people for a long time. His death is an irreparable loss to the politics of the state and the country. His ideals and life’s work, they said, would continue to inspire future generations. Prof. Chiraranjan Bhattacharjee, while addressing the gathering, proposed naming a university building or hall after the late leader. Prof. Mehmood Alam Ansari, on the other hand, emphasized the importance of research on the life and struggles of the departed leader.

Prof. Anup Kumar Dey presented detailed information on how the late leader’s life was associated with the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh. Expressing regret, Debashis Chakraborty, President of the Assam University Non-Teaching Employees’ Association, said that despite being a leader of great stature, Kabindra Purkayastha had not received due recognition. Prof. Karabi Dutta Choudhury, Prof. Amalendu Chakrabarty, Prof. Saumendra Bhatacharjee, Prof P B Mazumder, Director, CDC Jayanta Bhattacharjee, along with several others, also delivered relevant speeches. The condolence resolution was read out by Registrar Pradosh Kiran Nath.

The meeting concluded with two minutes of silence to pray for the peace of the departed soul, followed by the offering of floral tributes at the portrait of the late leader in front of the university’s main entrance. Deep condolences were conveyed to the bereaved family. The meeting was conducted by Kishor Kanti Paul. It may be mentioned that in 2024, Assam University conferred an honorary Doctorate degree on Kabindra Purkayastha in recognition of his outstanding contributions to social service.
