Senior Asstt of Settlement Office Mridul Kanti Chakraborty passes away on Saturday

June 5: In a tragic incident, Mridul Kanti Chakraborty (58) breathed his last on Saturday morning due to cardiac arrest. He was the Senior Assistant of Settlement Office, Cachar, Silchar. An inhabitant of Lane No 1, Link Road, Silchar, Mridul Kanti Chakraborty was a popular name in the Election Cell of Cachar district. Since a long period of time, he used to be engaged as the Senior Assistant of Training & Awareness Cell of Parliamentary and Assembly Elections. This year also, during the Assembly Elections, Mridul Kanti Chakraborty worked with full vigour discharging his duties with utmost responsibility in the Training & Awareness Cell.

On Friday late night, at around 1.30 PM, Mridul Kanti Chakraborty complained of uneasiness. Initially, he and his family members thought that might be due to acidity, he was feeling difficulties in breathing. Early in the morning, he was taken by an ambulance to Silchar Medical College & Hospital (SMCH). There he did Rapid Antigen Test (RAT) in which he was detected as Covid negative. He was then admitted at SMCH at around 6.30 AM on Saturday. However, he had a massive cardiac arrest and passed away at 9.30 AM on Saturday. His last rites were performed on Saturday afternoon. Assistant Commissioner Kishan Chorei came to the crematorium and paid tribute to the departed soul.

His death has cast a spell of gloom among his kith and kin. Many Master Trainers who were associated with the Training & Awareness Cell of Assembly Elections, 2021 have expressed grief at his sudden demise. SB Dutta Choudhury (Bapi), DO of LICI and Coordinator of Training Cell of Assembly Election, 2021, who also happened to be the classmate of Mridul Chakraborty said, “This is a big loss. I just could not fathom the fact that Mridul is no more with us. I do have a pleasant memory of working along with Mridul in the Election Cell of Cachar district for almost a decade. He was so much thorough in his work, which made the training sessions a smooth affair. He shared a personal relation with all the Master Trainers. The void which his death has caused can never be fulfilled.”

Another Master Trainer, Sagarmoy Das, Senior Faculty of Silchar Polytechnic, “I knew Mridul since a long period of time. Working in the Training Cell with him was really memorable. Everyday, without fail, we used to exchange Good Morning messages in Whatsapp. He will ever be in my heart.” Dr Himadri Sekhar Das, Associate Professor of Assam University also expressed deep grief at his death. Dr Das too spoke of those days during the Parliamentary Elections of 2019 when he came in close proximity with Mridul Chakraborty.

Sudarshan Gupta, Arunabha Bhattacharjee, Gongesh Chakraborty, Surajit Acharjee, Amrit Mazumdar and many other Master Trainers and staff Rajkumar Bardhan expressed deep sorrow at the death of Mridul Kanti Chakraborty. Expressing their feelings, these Mater Trainers said, “Mridulda shared a very personal relationship with all of us. He used to take care of our various problems during the training sessions and used to adjust the schedule accordingly. We have no words to describe the grief we experienced when this sad news came to us. We will miss him forever.”

Son of Late Mrigendra Chandra Chakroborty (Former ADC), Mridul Kanti Chakraborty is survived by his wife Rimli Chakraborty and son Mrinmoy Kanti Chakraborty, a student of HS Final year. His elder brother Mrinal Kanti Chakraborty is Retired DGM of BSNL and his younger brother Moloy Kanti Chakraborty works with IBM in Kolkata. He also has four sisters. The death of Mridul Chakraborty was also mourned by the officials and staff of Settlement Office, Silchar.
