Former Tripura Chief Minister Biplab Kumar Deb Marries Again
way2barak, June 22: Former Tripura Chief Minister and BJP MP Biplab Kumar Deb has entered a new phase of his personal life by marrying for a second time. The wedding, reportedly held on June 19 in a private ceremony in New Delhi, has become a major talking point across political and social circles in Tripura .
The marriage comes months after Deb’s divorce from his first wife, Niti Deb, a state bank officer bringing an end to a marital relationship that lasted for two and half decades.
Court documents relating to the mutual divorce proceedings indicate that Biplab Kumar Deb and Niti Deb were married on November 17, 2001, at Arya Samaj Mandir in New Delhi according to Hindu rites and ceremonies. The couple had two children, a son and a daughter and had reportedly been living separately since September 2022 owing to irreconcilable differences. The divorce petition stated that all efforts at reconciliation had failed and that both parties had mutually agreed to dissolve the marriage.
The settlement agreement reportedly included a financial settlement under which Niti Deb was to receive Rs.1 crore as full and final settlement of all claims, including maintenance, alimony and other matrimonial disputes. The amount was to be paid in two installments of Rs.50 lakh each as part of the mutual consent divorce proceedings.
While the identity of Deb’s new spouse has not been officially announced, sources close to the former Chief Minister have indicated that she hails from Karnataka and is associated with the South Indian film industry. The wedding was reportedly attended by close family members and a select group of friends.
A lavish reception has been scheduled for June 24 at Hotel Polo Towers in Agartala. According to sources, Deb has personally invited political leaders, ministers, senior bureaucrats, businesspersons, media and social figures from across party lines.
Several prominent political personalities are expected to attend, including Tripura Chief Minister Dr. Manik Saha, Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma, West Bengal Chief Minister Shubendu Adhikari, Maharashtra Governor and former Tripura Deputy Chief Minister Jishnu Dev Varma, Tipra Motha Founder Pradyot Kishore Debbarma along with senior BJP leaders and ministers from New Delhi
