On the 1st day of BUKSS Media Cricket Fest 2022, Media Panthers & News Rockers achieves victory

Feb. 27: The league matches of annual Media Cricket Fest, 2022 organised by Barak Upatyaka Krira Sangbadik Songstha (BUKSS) kickstarted at the District Sports Association (DSA), Silchar stadium on Sunday. Earlier on Saturday, the Media Cricket Fest, 2022 began with cultural performances followed by an exhibition match played between BUKSS 11 and Silchar veteran Cricketer’s Club in which the later registered victory.

On Sunday, two league matches were played. During the day, the 1st match in the morning took place between Rosekandy Press Fighters and e-Media News Rockers; whereas, the 2nd match in the afternoon was played  between Karimganj Media Challenger and Valley Strong Media Panthers. The fest this year was held in the memory of Late Kali Shankar Das.

In their stipulated 15 overs, batting first, Rosekandy Press Fighters scored 100 runs at the loss of 6 wickets.The opening pair Bishal Das scored 18 out of 13 balls and Ruhul Amunul got 10 runs in 22 balls. Captain of Press Fighters, Amalava Das scored 18 in 20 balls and was caught by Monoj Roy in the ball of Anirban Roy Choudhury. Bhola Nath took 11 runs in 8 balls. Debasish Das scored only 1 run in 4 balls and Biswanath Hazam scored 6 out of 6 balls. Nirupam Das remained not out at 24 out of 17 balls.

Out of their total score of 100 runs, 12 runs came in as extra (1 lb, 7 wd & 4 b). Their run rate was 6.67. Their opponent E-Media News Rockers used 6 bowlers. Anirban Roy Choudhury in his 3 overs spell took 2 wickets and gave 26 runs. Monoj Roy too claimed 2 wickets in his 3 overs and gave 14 runs. Another wicket taker was Moksudul Choudhury, who took 1 wicket in his 3 overs and gave only 11 runs. The other two bowlers were Debasish Shome and Raju Nath.

In response, E-Media News Rockers reached their target in 13.1 overs and scored 101 runs at the loss of 4 wickets. The opener pair Monoj Roy scored 17 in 24 balls and Joydeep Das scored 18 out of 09 balls. Anirban Roy Choudhury who came 1st down remained not out at 30 (21 balls). Debasish Shome with the help of 3 boundaries made 18 runs in 18 balls. Moksudul was out for a duck and Pintu Suklabaidya remained not out without scoring any runs. Amalava Das, Rahul Amunul Laskar, Keshab Bhattacharjee claimed 1 wicket each, whereas Joydeep Das was run out by Biswait Dutta.

E-Media News Rockers won the 1st league match against Rosekandy Press Fighters by 6 wickets. Anirban Roy Choudhury was declared as the player of the match. The prizes were handed over by Niloy Paul, Atanu Bhattacharjee, Moumita Gupta among others.

The 2nd match in the afternoon was played  between Karimganj Media Challenger and Valley Strong Media Panthers. Batting first, Valley Strong Media Panthers scored 115 in their stipulated 15 overs at the loss of 5 wickets. The batsmen who played during the match are Taher Mazumder (19 of 15 balls), Sanjib Singh (4 of 6 balls), Satyajit Suklabaidya (26 of 30 balls), Moni Bhusan (0 of 2 balls), Sibananda Singh (28 of 27 balls), Taposh Nath (13 of 7 balls) and Babu (2 of 3 balls).

Out of their total score of 115 runs, 23 runs came in as extra (20 w & 3 lb). Sajjid Khan in his 2 overs gave away only 11 runs and took 3 wickets. 1 wicket each was taken by Humayan Kabir Zashim and Nazim Uddin Tapadar. Valley Strong Media Panthers won by 39 runs. Ashok Raj Kumar was declared the player of the match. The prizes were handed over by Rudra Narayan Gupta, Hitabrata Bhattacharjee, Dr Moumita Nath Das among others.

The organisers of BUKSS Riten Bhattacharjee, Dwijendralal  Das, Biswanath Hazam, Bedobrata Banerjee, Abhijit Bhattacharjee, Sanjay Roy, Sanjib Singh among others were present in the field.

On 28 February, the match in the morning will be played between YASE Khabor Heroes and Valley Strong Media Panthers. The match in the evening will be played by Karimganj Media Challenger and e-Media News Rockers. The next day, that is, on 1 March, Rosekandy Press Fighters will face YASE Khabor heroes; whereas, in the afternoon, an exhibition match will be played in the memory of recently expired journalist from Badarpur, Sahirul Islam Bakul. This match will be played between BUKKS 11 and Badarpur Press Club. The two semi-final matches will be played on 2 March. The final match will be played on 3 March and will be a day-night event. The champions will be given a trophy and cash award of Rs.7,000, whereas, the runners-up too will get a trophy and a cash award of Rs.5,000. All the league matches will be of 15 overs, but the final match will comprise of 20 overs. All matches will be played with white balls.
