Jyoti: National Law University adjudged champion in debate & also bags best debator’s award

November 10:  The grand finale of Jyoti’s flagship event, 13th North East Regional Inter College Invitational Debate (NERICID) concluded on Sunday evening at Rajiv Bhawan, Silchar. It was indeed a battle of wit and words which was won by National Law University, Guwahati.

The finalists for NERICID (Debate) were National Law University Guwahati, Assam University Silchar, G C College Silchar, Dibrugarh University, St. Edmunds Shillong and Maharishi Vidya Mandir, Silchar.

The Speaker of NERICID final was his Excellency Hon’ble Governor of Nagaland & Interlocutor of the Naga Peace Talks R N Ravi. The Mover of the motion was ex-commonwealth inter university debate Runner up and Legendary Barak Valley Debator Prof Partha Sarathi Chanda, whereas Leader of the Opposition was Nilanjan Roy , Ex CEO, Times of India Group. The Motion of the Debate for NERICID final was ” Abrogation of Article 370 is a positive step.”

The teams argued it so well that the audience was glued to their seats for the entire span of the debate. At the end of the debate, the Speaker, Hon’ble Governor of Nagaland gave a brilliant exposition on the abrogation of Article 360.

National Law University, Guwahati bagged the first position as a team in the debate competition. National Law University was represented by Srestha Banerjee and Tawhid Alom Laskar. The team to win the 2nd position in debate was Assam University, Silchar. The varsity was represented by Jyoti Singh and Monosijo Bhattacharjee. Maharishi Vidya Mandir was placed third. The institute was represented by Suryaditya Sharma Roy & Mrinmoy Nag.

In individual category, the best debator who by her logic and wit stole the show was Srestha Banerjee of National Law University, Guwahati. Monosijo Bhattacharjee of Assam University, Silchar was adjudged as the second best debator, whereas the 3rd position was secured by Tawhid Alom Laskar of National Law University, Guwahati
