Assam Govt has taken many initiatives to ramp up availability of oxygen, says Himanta Biswa

April 17: Assam Govt has taken many initiatives to ramp up availability of Oxygen. 11 cryogenic vessels covering all 7 medical college hospitals with storage capacity of 210 KL completed and commissioned. Efforts underway to install 19 plants of medical oxygen. This was announced by state Health Minister Dr Himanta Biswa Sarma in a press conference held at at at GMCH Conference Hall (GMCH)  Conference Hall, Guwahati on Saturday evening.

“We’re ready to meet scaled up requirement based on an assessment of last year, when max projected requirement was 81.31 MT per day. 625 oxygen concentrators of 5 LPM (litre per minute) capacity have been procured & supplied in all medical college hospitals,” added the minister. He further went on to say, “We’ve availability of 288.19 MT of Medical Oxygen available in the state. Covid treatment requires about 2.58 MT per day, while non-Covid operations need 18 MT per day. Industrial requirement is of 20 MT per day, making the total to about 40.58 MT per day.”

The minister further stated, “I urge citizens to rest assured as Assam Govt is geared up to meet the emerging situations. We’ve 4440 Covid beds available (ICU 278, ICU+ ventilator 143) out of which 811 are occupied. We also have stock of 607090 doses of Covid vaccines.”
