Another COVID-19 +ve patient of Hailakandi dies, death toll in Assam rises to 7
June 12: One COVID-19 positive patient succumbed to the contagious disease, taking the death toll to two in South Assam’s Hailakandi district.
Health authorities here disclosed that one Mangoli Rani Das, 53, a resident of Bakrihower Part I under Algapur revenue circle died at the Silchar Medical College and Hospital on Friday morning. A cancer patient, her son Jhintu Das is also undergoing treatment at SMC&H. The deceased had gone to Delhi for treatment along with her son and were under home quarantine. As soon as their swab samples tested positive on June 6, the district administration declared Bakrihower Part I as containment zone.
Another COVID-19 positive patient named Foijul Haque Barbhuiya, 65, of Borjurai village under Hailakandi revenue circle died at SMC&H on April 10 last. He had attended the Markaz event at Nizamuddin in Delhi.
On Thursday, 16 more persons tested positive for novel coronavirus in the district, taking the number of such cases to 92.
Health authorities here revealed that Abjal Hussain SK, 26, Burhan Ali Laskar, 20, Nuruddin SK, 22, Kolimuddin, 22, Saidur Barbhuiya, 24, Zubair Ahmed Barbhuiya, 19, Sozir Ahmed Barbhuiya, 23, Anwar Hussain, 20, Salimuddin, 22, Alta Hussain Laskar, 24, Wiseuddin Laskar, 20, Fokrul Hussain Choudhury, 26, Sultan Ahmed, 18, Kalamuddin, 25, Bilaluddin Barbhuiya, 25 and Kobir Hussain, 22, have tested COVID-19 positive. All of them returned here by flight from Mumbai on June 9 and were put under facility quarantine centre at Joy Mangal High School, Lala. They were shifted to the isolation wards of SK Roy Civil Hospital here last night.
Superintendent of SK Roy designated COVID-19 Civil Hospital, Dr. Sudip Chakraborty informed that 47 COVID-19 positive patients are admitted at the isolation wards while five are at SMC&H.
There are currently 53 active cases, which include two deaths. 39 patients after being cured have been discharged from civil hospital in Hailakandi, SMC&H, Silchar and Guwahati Medical College and Hospital.
Altogether 1,060 persons are under institutional quarantine while 912 under home quarantine.
Of the 3,009 swab samples taken, 1,992 have turned out to be negative. Results of 892 swab samples are awaited. The district administration has declared five containment zones to arrest the spread of COVID-19.
