March 22: Responding to the call of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, India united to clap and whistle for 5 minutes at 5 PM on Sunday to salute the warriors who are risking their lives to help coronavirus patients. Not only doctors and health workers, journalists, basic service providers, all were applauded by the nation for their yeomen service. Silchar too joined the nation by beating steel plates, blowing conch, clapping, whistling and what now. After pan Indian Janata Curfew, it’s now a brave fight against the deadly virus.
From Central Road to Sonai Road, Meherpur to Rongpur and in every other nook and corner of Silchar, sounds could be heard from everywhere. Children, aged, women, man- all were enthusiastically participating in the 5 minutes saluting the real life heroes of the nation. It was indeed a patriotic fervour in the air.
In his address to the nation, the prime minister suggested that every Indian must come out of their houses, stand in balcony or window at exactly 5 pm on Sunday, March 22 and express gratitude towards the people who are working tirelessly to keep them safe in midst of the crisis.
From thalis to shankhnad, Indians responded in all possible ways to the call of their Prime Minister. “On March 22, at 5 pm stand on your doors and windows for 5 minutes and clap, ring a bell to salute people who are serving the nation tirelessly,” the prime minister said.
It’s a respect to the frontliners who are working relentlessly to fight COVID-19. Meanwhile, the number of Coronavirus infected people in India crossed 324 mark on Sunday heralding the onset of the third and critical phase of the pandemic. The Union Health Ministry data said that India now has 324 infected people; out of which 24 recovered and 6 died.
The call for ‘Janata Curfew’ has been successful and shows that India is prepared to tackle any challenge, Lav Agarwal, joint secretary in the union health ministry said today. “The central government has ordered complete lockdown in 75 districts where cases have been detected. Only essential services will operate till March 31,” Agarwal said. “Our biggest challenge now is how to break the chain of transmission.”
