Barak Valley registers 207 positive cases on Sunday

August 30: The number of coronavirus positive cases are on the rise in Barak Valley along with the rest of Assam. On Sunday, the number of fresh cases somewhat decreased in the valley in comparison to the past few days. A total of 207 new COVID-19 positive cases were detected from the three districts of Barak Valley during the day. It needs mention here that on Saturday, Barak Valley registered 308 positive cases. In the last 24 hours, the Valley witnessed 4 more deaths at Silchar Medical College and Hospital (SMCH) & Green Heals Hospital.

Here is the district-wise break up of fresh COVID-19 positive cases detected on Sunday in Barak Valley:

  • Cachar: 107 positive cases   (It was 158 on Saturday)
  • Karimganj: 86 positive cases (It was 70 on  Saturday)
  • Hailakandi: 14 positive cases (It was 80 on Saturday)

A total of 107 new cases of COVID-19 were detected from across Cachar district on Sunday. Out of the 107 fresh cases, 84 of them were found positive in Rapid Antigen Test (RAT), whereas the rest 23 were detected positive in the 3 slots of RT-PCR Test. A total of 703 rapid tests were done during the day.

On Sunday, 5 more persons at Cachar Cancer Hospital & Research Centre (CCHRC) tested positive. The 5 patients of the Cancer Hospital who tested positive during the day are 30-year-old male from Meherpur Naga Colony, 45-year-old male from Meherpur, 24-year-old female from Kajidohar, 35-year-old female from Rangirkhari and 12-year-old child from Meherpur. The detection of so many positive cases almost daily at the CCHRC has become a major cause of concern for the health department.

Further, in the 3rd slot of RT-PCR Test results 2 employees of MCD College, Sonai also were found positive. One of them is a 38-year-old male teacher of the college, while the other is a 50-year-old employee of the same college. Both of them are asymptomatic.

Cachar district recorded 3 more deaths during the last 24 hours. Out of the three, one of them was certified by State Death Audit Board as Covid death. The deceased is identified as Bhaskar Bijoy Gupta (50) from Premtola, Silchar. The 2 other non-Covid deaths are Lily Begum (62) from Meherpur and Tusharkanti Choudhury (76) from Tarapur.

14 fresh COVID-19 positive cases have been reported from Hailakandi district on Sunday, taking the total tally to 2,262. Health authorities here disclosed that of the 14 positive cases, 12 have been detected under the Rapid Antigen Test (RAT) while two under RT-PCR. 464 swab samples have been found negative on Sunday. AIUDF MLA of Hailakandi Constituency, Anwar Hussain Laskar also tested positive.

Altogether 1,171 cases have been found positive under RAT with over 50 per cent without travel history. 1,770 persons on being cured have been discharged from hospitals.The number of active cases is 477. Six COVID-19 positive patients have breathed their last at Silchar Medical College and Hospital. Nine deaths at SMC&H have been declared as ‘non-COVID’ by the State level Death Audit Board. 103 COVID-19 afflicted persons are under home isolation. Of the 21,407 swab samples taken, 16,778 have tested negative. Swab results of 2,658 persons are awaited.

Karimganj district registered 86 new COVID-19 positive cases on Sunday. Out of 86 positive cases,52 were detected in Rapid Antigen Test (RAT), whereas, 34 were found positive in RT-PCR Test. As of now, a total of 2315 persons tested positive in the district. Till now, 1515 persons were discharged in Karimganj. On Sunday, 28 patients were discharged from Karimganj district. At present, there are 800 active cases in the district.

Apart from the valley, a total of 1980 persons tested positive in Assam on Sunday, thereby taking the state tally to 1,05,774. As of now, there are 21,548 active cases in the state. Meanwhile, 1,417 patients were also discharged from across the state during the day. With this, a total of 83,927 persons were discharged in Assam. Moreover, during the day, 04 persons died due to COVID-19 in Assam, thereby taking the death tally to 296.

On Sunday morning, the total Covid-19 count rose In India by 78,761, the biggest single-day spike so far. The active caseload of Covid-19 in the country is 7.68 lakh, comprising 21.60% of the total confirmed cases in the country. “The number of recoveries in India today exceeds the active cases by 3.55 times,” a health ministry official said. The cumulative tests for Covid-19 have crossed the four crore mark.
