Urban FW Unit to shift from Civil Hospital to Urban PHC; Sushmita opposes the move
Dec. 29: Joint Director of Health Services, Cachar in a letter written on 23 December proposed to shift the Urban Family Welfare Unit and all its related services located at S.M. Dev Civil Hospital campus to Urban PHC at Trunk Road, Silchar. Opposing the move, MP Sushmita Dev in a letter addressed to Deputy Commissioner Keerthi Jalli on 28 December stated that,” This sudden decision of the it. Director of Health Services has given rise to serious agony amongst the people of the urban areas.”
Ms. Dev further wrote that the present establishment of Urban Family Welfare Unit at S.M. Dev Civil Hospital campus caters to the need of the people of the greater Silchar urban areas. People at large from new Silchar and old Silchar areas visit the Civil Hospital regularly for various immunization and other related health check-ups and services and within the same campus they could easily avail the maternity and child care services in Urban FW Unit.
In her letter, Sushmita Dev argued that the Urban PHC Unit at Trunk Road is situated in a distant corner of the town and will be quite difficult for the people of the greater new Silchar, Sonai Road and its adjoining places to reach there ,Moreover, it will also be quite difficult for the women admitted in the maternity wards of Civil Hospital to travel a long distance with their new born babies to Trunk Road in severe traffic congestion, for availing immunization and other child care services. Under the prevailing circumstances, she urged upon the Deputy Commissioner to kindly look into the matter personally and consider revocation of the shifting order in larger public interest.
In the absence of MP Sushmita Dev, the letter was handed over to the Deputy Commissioner by the members of TMC including Sajal Banik, Rajesh Deb, Anupam Paul among others on Tuesday.
