Traffic Awareness Programme organised at Silchar Nazirpatty Point

September 17: A traffic awareness programme was organised by ‘Nagarik Sartho Rokhha Sangram Parishad’ at Nazirpatty Police Point, Silchar on Tuesday evening. A number of other associations also participated in this mass awareness campaign, which included Inner Wheel Club, Silchar, Rupam Sanskritik Sangstha, Dasharupak, Central Silchar Traders Association, Cachar District Distributors Association, United Club among others.

Speaking to way2barak, Haridas Dutta of ‘Nagarik Sartho Rokhha Sangram Parishad’ said, “We have organised this Traffic Awareness Programme so that there occurs no road accident at Silchar and that no life is lost here due to any street accident. We have launched this campaign on 5 August, 2019. This is our 4th campaign. Life is precious, so we should adopt road safety measures. We all should obey traffic rules.” Commenting on the New Road Safety Rules, he said, “I accept that the revised fines are too high but the fact is that if all obey the traffic rules, then one need not worry about the hike in fine.”

Emphasis was given to abide by the traffic rules and regulations. All two-wheeler riders were urged upon to always wear helmet while riding and not to exceed speed limit within the town area. Even the pedestrians were requested to walk on the footpaths and not to walk on the streets. Further, vehicle drivers were appealed not to blow loud horn and horns which makes peculiar sound.

Announcements were made by the Parishad to respect the traffic rules and not to overtake while driving. Referring to the death of journalist Molin Sharma, The Sangram Parishad appealed to all, “We do not want to lose any more life due to rash driving by heavy vehicles.” Auto-rickshaws & Electric autos were also urged upon not to pick up and drop passengers anywhere on the middle of the road.

It needs mention here that the Sangram Parishad in the past organised such Traffic Awareness Programme at Hospital Road point, Capital Travels Point and some other places of Silchar town.
