Targeted COVID-19 testing to begin in Assam!

Sept. 24: Despite repeated appeals, a very few people are coming forward voluntarily  for COVID-19 testing. This has landed the state health department in great worry. To overcome this, Assam may soon launch targeted COVID-19 testing. A senior official in the state health department gave such an indication. If such targeted testing is done in Assam, then this will result in detection of more number of positive cases on a daily basis.

The official hinted that the modalities for targeted testing is still being worked out and the districts are likely to be given targets of around 3,000 to 5,000 tests a day. The areas reporting more cases will be the focus areas The Assam health department has also launched a mass awareness campaign to motivate people to volunteer for testing and to create awareness regarding COVID-19 prevention protocols.

What seemed to be the cause of more concern for the state government is the positivity rate, which was below 5 percent in August, but has now reached around 7 percent.
