18 more tests +ve in Cachar on Thursday, day’s total 187

August 6: Another 18 persons were detected coronavirus positive in Cachar district on Thursday night. Their particulars were declared in the 2nd slot of RT-PCR Test. Earlier during the day, 12 persons were found positive in the results of 1st slot of RT-PCR test. Apart from these 2 slots, 157 were detected positive in Rapid Antigen Test (RAT). As such, a total of 187 persons tested positive in Cachar on Thursday. This is the biggest single-day spike in the number of COVID-19 cases in Cachar district till now. The details of persons detected positive in Rapid Antigen test were, however, not made available till  the filing of this report.

In the result of 2nd slot of RT-PCR Test, 18 more were detected as coronavirus positive. Out of them, 3 are from 01 BN BSF Dholcherra, 2 from Masimpur Military Station and 1 from Kachudaram Police Station. They came in contact with high risk lab confirmed case. Others detected are a 63-year-old male from Dewanjee Bazar, 2 persons from Rashbehari Lane, Rangirkhari (Influenza Like Illness Symptoms), one senior citizen from Mela Road, Malugram (ILI symptoms), another 75-year-old male Tarapur, 42 years old man Ashram Road, 45 years old female from Rangirkhari (ILI symptoms). Apart from them, some others were detected positive during the day from Kashipur, East Gobindapur Pr-III, Amraghat Town, Srikona and Siberband.

Suman Choudhury, District Media Expert said that the district health department has stepped up Rapid Antigen test (RAT). He said, “Many new cases are now coming up as we have intensified rapid testing of persons in various places. Earlier, there was one screening centre at Urban PHC in Trunk Road. Now, we have also started another screening centre at Teachers Training College (T.T. College), Hailakandi Road, Silchar. We are also doing rapid test in various market areas of the district.”

Earlier, in another meeting with the journalists, ADC Sumit Sattawan, who holds the charge of the Health department said that after examination of about 40 people in Silchar’s Fatak Bazaar three days ago, 10 corona positive cases came out which is a matter of serious concern.

Further, the District Media Expert, Suman Choudhury disclosed that , “Two PG students at Silchar Medical College & Hospital (SMCH) who are from outside Assam donated plasma on Thursday. The plasma received from these two persons can save lives of atleast 4 COVID patients. The 2 students who donated plasma are Guesnar KB and Nagesh CS. The plasma separation machine was inaugurated by Deputy Commissioner Keerthi Jally at SMCH in presence of the Principal and Superintendent of SMCH.”

In the 1st slot of swab of RT-PCR Test, 12 persons were confirmed as coronvirus positive. Out of them is Dr. Upasana Mohanty (30) from the Department of Surgery, SMCH, whose swab sample was collected on 5 August. Her positive report came on 6 August. She is asymptomatic.

Apart from this, three persons with travel history were also detected COVID-19 positive on Thursday. One of the, an air passenger from Bangalore came to Silchar on 4 August and gave his swab sample. This 35-year-old man from Katigorah (Govindapur) tested positive on 6 August. Another 31-year-old employee of TATA Project at Haticherra travelled from Malda to Cachar and was detected positive. A 22 years youth from Rongpur Part-I travelled from Maharashtra to Silchar. He too was tested positive.

A 24 years old man from Sarat Pally was found positive. His cause of contamination was not mentioned in SRF. A 59 years old male from 1st Link Road was detected positive by Assam Targeted Surveillance Programme (ATSP). Apart from them, some others too were tested positive during the day who though were asymptomatic yet got infected as they came in direct contact with high risk lab confirmed cases. They are 47-year-old man from Bilpar, 34 years old male from Tarapur Rice Mill, a youth from Trunk Road, 22-years-old male from Ghoniwala. In this category, 2 persons, a 22-year-old male and a 24-year-old female from Key Cee Hospital were also tested positive.
