Suggestions invited by Govt to remove historical distortions from school textbooks
Date for sending inputs extended to 15 July
July 1: A Parliamentary committee has invited suggestions from students, teachers and experts for reforms in the content and design of school textbooks. Suggestions can be given either in English or Hindi through email at rsc_hrd@sansad.nic.in. Earlier, it was stated that the suggestion should reach the government by 30 June, 2021. However, now the date for submission of the same was extended till 15 July, 2021.
The Rajya Sabha Secretariat in a statement informed that the department–related Parliamentary Standing Committee on Education, Women, Children, Youth and Sports has taken up for examination and consideration the subject ‘Reforms In The Content And Design Of School Texts’ with focus on the following:
- Removing references to unhistorical facts and distortions about our national heroes from the text books
- Ensuring equal or proportionate references to all periods of Indian history
- Highlights the role of great historic women heroes including Gargi, Maitreyi or rules like Rani of Jhansi, Rani Channamma, Chand Bibi, Zalkri Bai etc.

The NCERT and various boards of education are currently in the process of revamping their curricula across subjects and streams to bring the same in sync with the National Curriculum Framework (NCF), 2020. The exercise of seeking suggestions from the public is additionally going to help the government in bringing the real and unabridged history of the country to the present as well as the future generations.
