Substantial progress made in restoration of NH-06, CM Meghalaya visits damaged portion of road

June 19: Chief Minister of Meghalaya, Conrad Sangma along with state Home Minister visited Lumshnong and inspected the damaged portion of NH-06 and reviewed the ongoing restoration works. The Chief Minister also inspected the Lumshnong- Brichyrnot diversion that is currently being used by the Light Motor Vehicles (LMVs).

Later, CM Sangma also attended a review meeting with district officials in the district directing them to take necessary actions to alleviate sufferings of people. Deputy Commissioner of East Jaintia Hills District also accompanied the Chief Minister during his visit to Lumshnong.

The Chief Minister also  assured the stranded truck drivers of all possible help & support. “The team has been working overtime just to repair the road and also to provide support to the people who have been stuck along the highway, said CM Sangma.

The Chief Minister of Meghalaya further said, “The damages to NH06 in Lumshnong, East Jaintia Hills District that connects Meghalaya to 3 North Eastern states is extensive & the restoration work is a huge task. Team has been directed to expedite the restoration work of this very crucial road. Vehicles are now plying through the Diversion road from the premises of Star Cement in Lumshnong. Have given directions to officials to expedite the restoration work of NH 6 & ensure adequate food & water supply to those stranded. Within next 48 to 72 hours we are hopeful that vehicles might start plying on this road.”

Expressing his views, DC East Jaintia Hills District said, “Substantial progress has been made in restoration of NH-06 at the damaged portion. Despite the continuous rain, work has been going on steadfast. Apart from allowing the passengers to use their private road, Star Cement is also facilitating the work by providing lighting so that work can continue at night.”
