State level Umpires’ Seminar cum Workshop begins at Silchar

September 13: The two-day State level Umpires’ Seminar cum Workshop kick started on Friday admist a galaxy of luminaries. The Workshop organised by Silchar Veteran Cricketers Club (SVCC) was organised in a banquet hall here at Silchar. The two-day seminar cum workshop was inaugurated by MLA Silchar Dilip Kumar Paul. More than 30 umpires from different districts of Assam attended the said workshop.

The Umpires’ Seminar cum Workshop was also graced by Devajit Saikia, Secretary of Assam Cricket Association (ACA) and Tridip Kunwar, Treasurer of ACA. The key note speakers who addressed the august gathering were BCCI panelist umpires Satrajit Lahiri from West Bengal and SomnathJha from Jharkhand.

All speakers appreciated the role of Silchar Veteran Cricketers Club (SVCC) for organising such an event. ACA Secretary Devajit Saikia was overwhelmed with the devotion of the organisers and said that Silchar has got all the potentials for becoming the 2nd venue for the forthcoming Assam Premier League (APL) tournament, which will be held around February in 2020. He, however, mentioned that for organising such tournaments, the venue should be able to stand up to the needs and requirements of the game.
